Release occurred OpenZFS 2.4.2<\/strong>, a corrective release of the open-source implementation of the ZFS file system for Linux and FreeBSD. The main change in the new version is the support for the stable branch. Linux 7.0<\/strong>. The previous release, OpenZFS 2.4, supported Linux kernels only up to 6.19, while maintaining compatibility with older kernels starting from Linux 4.18. For FreeBSD, it is claimed to work with releases 13.3 and newer, as well as the 14.x branch.<\/p>\n

OpenZFS 2.4.2 includes a large set of fixes affecting building, testing, working with initramfs, support for POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED, handling mount points, and Linux-specific code. Notably, changes necessary for compatibility with Linux 7.0 are highlighted, as well as the first patches for the future branch of Linux 7.1.<\/p>\n

Among the fixed issues are bugs in vdev_rebuild_range(), rare checksum errors after rebuilding the array, data corruption after block clone and subsequent truncate, deadlocks during automatic snapshot mounting while simultaneously performing zfs recv, memory leaks, and several issues in dRAID, including bugs after rebuild, degraded states, and disk replacements.<\/p>\n

In the Linux part, the adaptation of OpenZFS to the new kernel mounting model has continued. Developers have removed support for the old mount API, transitioned the code to fs_context, reworked the handling of mount parameters, and added a workaround for kernels that more strictly check 'forbidden' mount options. Changes related to LSM, statx, setlease, ACL, and renaming some internal APIs of Linux kernel 7.0 were also made.<\/p>\n

A release has been published in parallel. OpenZFS 2.3.7<\/strong> for users who are still on the previous stable branch 2.3. It also includes support for Linux 7.0 and some fixes from the new series.<\/p>\n
