The Chromium developers have implemented support for the Wayland protocol in the ANGLE library. This implementation is based on the use of the EGL extension EGL_EXT_platform_wayland. The ANGLE library translates OpenGL ES calls into graphical APIs OpenGL, Direct3D 9\/11, and Vulkan, and is used in Chrome as a backend for WebGL, and in Android for implementing OpenGL ES over Vulkan. It is mentioned that this change will enable Wayland support in the CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework), designed to embed the Chromium browser engine into applications. Among other things, the lack of Wayland support in CEF prevents the implementation of a Wayland version of the Steam client.
