The new version features a redesigned interface and recording engine, with the main change being the ability to prepare a primary setup profile in advance: after the flash, the board can boot with user-set network, locale, and SSH access. Release v2.0.0 was published on GitHub on June 6, 2026, with the official Armbian announcement coming on June 7.

<noindex><noindex>

Armbian Imager — a free cross-platform program for installing Armbian OS on SBCs. The utility can select the board and image, download and unpack it, check the SHA checksum, write the image, and then verify the written data against the original image. The source code is distributed under a license. GPL-2.0.

</noindex></noindex>

Key changes

Primary setup profiles.
In Armbian Imager 2.0, you can create a profile in advance with a username, password, SSH key, Wi-Fi settings, country, timezone, locale, and shell. These details are written directly into the image's filesystem during the flashing process and are applied on the first boot of the board. This is particularly useful for headless scenarios, where the device is deployed without a monitor and keyboard.

Support for the same approach for Qualcomm boards via QDL.
The announcement specifically notes that Qualcomm boards flashed via QDL receive the same preconfiguration mechanism. This is important for devices where installation occurs not only through classic image writing to a card but also via USB flashing mode.

A new unified selection interface.
Old pop-up windows have been replaced with a single step-by-step screen: selecting the manufacturer, board, OS, and target drive is now integrated into one flow. This makes the process similar to an installation wizard: the user sees the entire path from selecting the SBC to writing the image, without switching between disparate dialogs.

More informative image gallery.
For images, the build date, environment tags, and kernel branch are displayed, as well as a marker for already downloaded files. A separate filter for rolling/trunk builds is provided, with a warning before use. Images that cannot be written to the card, such as VM disks, are hidden from the list.

Byte-for-byte write verification.
After downloading, the image is checked against SHA256, and after writing, the utility reads the medium back and compares the data with the source. This means a successful write not only indicates the operation completed without error but also that the contents of the medium match the image.

Reworked cache manager and offline mode.
The cache now shows which data takes up space by category and allows for faster cleanup of unnecessary items. The offline mode has also been reworked: already downloaded and user-created images remain accessible even without an Internet connection.

Support for custom images.
You can transfer your own image to Imager. The utility claims support for img, iso, xz, gz, bz2, and zst, with extraction before writing. This makes the program suitable not only for official Armbian images but also for local builds or testing variants.

Cross-platform builds and localization.
Armbian Imager 2.0 is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS, including x64 and ARM64 versions. The interface has been translated into 18 languages, with the language selected automatically based on system locale; light, dark, and automatic themes are also available.

In practical terms, Armbian Imager 2.0 brings Armbian installation closer to standard mass deployment of SBCs: the card can be prepared once, inserted into the board, powered on, and immediately connected to an already configured system over the network. This significantly reduces manual setup after the first boot for home labs, stands, mini-servers, and batch board preparations.

Source: <a
content="nofollow" rel="nofollow"
