The Ubuntu developers have reinstated the cp utility from the GNU Coreutils set after discovering incompatibilities in the implementation of cp from the Rust Coreutils, which caused the Live image build script (livecd-rootfs) to terminate with an error. <\/p>\n
In the Ubuntu 24.04 release, due to identified vulnerabilities, the cp, mv, and rm utilities were reverted from GNU Coreutils. However, the coreutils-from-uutils package update 0.0.0~ubuntu26 saw the reintroduction of utilities from the Rust Coreutils set. The issue arose from calling the cp utility in the build script with the options \u2018-afL\u2019, which were correctly handled in GNU Coreutils but led to the error \u2018cp: -r not specified; omitting directory \u2019 in Rust Coreutils. <\/p>\n
The error was caused by differing behaviors when processing conflicting options \u2018-L\u2019 and \u2018-a\u2019. The \u2018-L\u2019 option instructs to dereference symbolic links, while the combined option \u2018-a\u2019, replaced by \u2018-dR --preserve=all\u2019, includes the \u2018-d\u2019 option, which prohibits dereferencing symbolic links.
