Con Kolivas has resumed work on the MuQSS (Multiple Queue Skiplist Scheduler) task scheduler and the set of -ck patches for the Linux kernel, aimed at enhancing responsiveness and interactivity during user tasks and gaming. The development of these projects was halted in 2021 due to a loss of motivation and lack of time. Now, Con has returned to his previous activities and has released a set of ck patches and the MuQSS scheduler for Linux kernel 7.2. It is noted that the issue of time constraints has been resolved through the use of AI tools, which have simplified the development and adaptation of changes to the new kernel. <\/p>\n
The new version of the patches implements a scheduling mode for distributing CPU resources among processes, taking into account I\/O activity and execution of read\/write operations in the calling process (I\/O load is now considered in the calculation of CPU resources allocated to the process). The -ck patches include the MuQSS task scheduler, which continues the development of the BFS project, and various changes that affect memory management, priority handling, timer interrupt generation, and kernel configuration. The key goal of the patches is to improve the responsiveness of desktop applications.
