Arnd Bergmann, who is responsible for kernel packages at SUSE, has prepared patches to remove about 55,000 lines of code related to support for outdated ARM platforms that are rarely used and hinder the maintenance of current subsystems. The platforms slated for removal include sa1100, omap24xx, i.MX31, samv7, lpc18xx, riscpc, axxia, footbridge, old pxa boards, orion, dove, and mv78xx0, as well as chips without a memory management unit (MMU) and microcontrollers stm32f4\/f7\/h7. These platforms are scheduled for removal in kernel 7.5, expected in the first quarter of 2027, in order to avoid removals in the LTS kernel and give users time to declare their continued usage of certain systems to prevent their removal.
