Cloudflare has acquired Deno Land Inc, the company behind the Deno platform. Corrective releases of the Deno runtime and security updates are planned to be published for another year, after which development of Deno will cease. The Deno code will remain open, and if there is interest, the community can continue its development independently.<\/p>\n
As for other developments by Deno Land, the celld project, which allows running Worker applications on its own, servers<\/a>, will be integrated with the Cloudflare Workers platform. The Deno Deploy platform will be supported for another six months, after which it will cease to exist, and paid users will be provided with migration to Cloudflare Workers. The JSR package repository (JavaScript Registry) will continue to operate, but its associated infrastructure will be transferred to Cloudflare. Support for rusty_v8, Rust bindings for the V8 engine, will continue, but development will be integrated with the JavaScript runtime workerd.<\/p>\n Deno developers will shift their focus to working on a self-hosting option for the Cloudflare Workers platform and the capabilities for developing applications using the Durable Objects mechanism. The main idea is to make the worker-based programming model suitable for developing server applications that can be run not only on the Cloudflare network but also on private infrastructure.<\/p>\n The Deno platform is designed for the isolated execution of server applications in JavaScript and TypeScript using the V8 engine. The project was led by Ryan Dahl, the creator of Node.js. This new platform was created to provide a more secure environment and to address conceptual mistakes made in Node.js architecture. To enhance security, the wrapper around the V8 engine is written in Rust, and the Tokio platform is used for handling requests in a non-blocking manner. The runtime is delivered as a single self-contained executable file (\"deno\"), with no external dependencies and requiring no special installation in the system.
