Almost a month and a half after its premiere, the developers at 4A Games released the first major patch for Metro Exodus \u2014 the Ranger Update. It introduced numerous new features, including the 'New Game +' mode with developer commentary that can be listened to during gameplay, as well as improved performance and enhancements to NVIDIA RTX real-time ray tracing technology. The update is 6 GB in size and is now available on all platforms.<\/p>\n

Starting Metro Exodus in 'New Game +' mode after completing the campaign, the player (if they choose) will receive all the weapons and modifications they unlocked during previous playthroughs (all of this will appear at the 'Aurora' workbench after rescuing Anna in Moscow). This does not include upgrades for suits and wrist devices.<\/p>\n

The new mode features various settings that add variety to repeat playthroughs. For instance, players can choose not to carry over all found weapons, keeping only one slot and carrying no more than one 'gun' (it can be swapped out). Additionally, the crafting option via the backpack can be disabled (in which case it will only be available at workbenches), using the backpack solely for weapon modifications. At the beginning of the game, in addition to other weapons, players can now acquire a crossbow. Opponents can be enhanced \u2014 when the corresponding options are enabled, human enemy armor increases by one level (if possible), and mutants become less susceptible to damage. The 'Grenadiers' setting makes opponents use grenades more frequently during combat.<\/p>\n

The gaming day can be extended to a full twenty-four hours (instead of the standard two), and the weather can worsen (fog, rain, snow, and sandstorms will occur more frequently). Additionally, there is now the option to add extra zones of radiation contamination to some levels, making the gas mask a more crucial item. Another new feature, the 'Iron Mode,' completely disables the ability to save the game (progress is only recorded between levels). Furthermore, in 'New Game +,' players can unlock new achievements and trophies.<\/p>\n
