Today, CD Projekt RED held a conference to discuss the results of their activities in the 2018 financial year. Among other things, the Polish company announced the preparation of mobile versions of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Owners of iPhones will receive it in the fall of 2019, and later (the date has not yet been announced) it will be available for Android smartphone users.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spent a lot of time and effort preparing to bring Gwent to smartphones,\u201d said project director Jason Slama. \u201cNot only did we need to maintain the beautiful graphics, but we also had to implement mobile support into many of our technologies, including the GOG Galaxy client on which Gwent's multiplayer is based. I believe that in developing these versions, we will use all the best graphic and gameplay developments of our studio.\u201d<\/p>\n

More details about the mobile versions were promised for later. At the meeting, it was announced that in the last quarter of 2018, Gwent brought in more profit than Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, which was released on October 23 on GOG, November 10 on Steam, and December 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The failure is attributed not to temporary exclusivity, as many believe, but to a lack of resources\u2014the main efforts of the team were focused on the development of Gwent, and the independent storyline campaign lacked a budget. Previously, the creators had already admitted that the sales of Thronebreaker had disappointed them. However, the game received very positive reviews from critics (Metacritic rating\u201479\u201385\/100 points), and the authors are very proud of this.<\/p>\n

In addition, the developers noted that they are pleased with the pre-orders for the first major expansion, The Crimson Curse, which will be released tomorrow, March 28. The team plans to release several major add-ons for Gwent every year, as well as to add new content and features on a monthly basis. One of the attendees asked the leaders about the possibility of switching Gwent to a subscription model. Studio president Adam Kici\u0144ski responded that the company is considering various monetization options, including that, but has not yet made a final decision.<\/p>\n

In 2018, CD Projekt RED earned 256.6 million Polish zlotys ($67.2 million) in sales revenue\u2014approximately one third less than in 2017. The net profit was 109.3 million Polish zlotys ($28.6 million)\u2014compared to 200.2 million ($52.4 million) in the previous period. In The Crimson Curse, players will fight against the higher vampire Dettlaff van der Eretein, one of the characters from the Blood & Wine expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The expansion will add over a hundred cards and new mechanics\u2014all details can be found here.<\/p>\n

The official launch of Gwent on PC took place on October 23, 2018, and the game was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 4.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
