NVIDIA has lost its long-time director of technical marketing and outstanding engineer Tom Petersen. He announced on Friday that he has completed his last day at the company. Although the details of his new job have not been officially disclosed, sources at HotHardware claim that Ari Rauch, the head of Intel's visual computing division, successfully recruited Mr. Petersen to join the gaming environments team. Hiring such an expert aligns with Intel's current strategy to introduce its own discrete Graphics Xe card next year and actively engage with the gaming community.<\/p>\n

\"Engineer<\/p>\n

Tom Petersen is a true veteran of the industry. Before joining NVIDIA in 2005, he spent much of his career as a CPU designer, working with IBM and Motorola on the PowerPC team. He also spent some time at Broadcom after acquiring SiByte, where he was the technical director of the BCM1400 project, an embedded quad-core multiprocessor. Prior to that, he was one of the engineers involved in NVIDIA's G-Sync technology. Around 50 technical patents bear his name \u2014 in other words, he is a highly significant member of the NVIDIA GeForce team.<\/p>\n

The departure of a leader of such caliber from NVIDIA after nearly a decade and a half seems quite sudden \u2014 apparently, it was a difficult decision. When a person works at one company for a long time, they feel it is a part of their life, not just another job. \"Today was my last day as an NVIDIA employee. I will miss them. The team helped me through some tough times, and I am endlessly grateful,\" Tom Petersen wrote on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n

\"Engineer<\/p>\n

Intel is currently actively seeking key technical and marketing specialists, and at the end of 2017, it poached former AMD graphics division head Raja Koduri, who took on a similar position in the new company. To promote its graphics solutions, Intel also lured Chris Hook, the former marketing director of AMD Radeon, who had been with the company for two decades.<\/p>\n

Among a whole series of other well-known names who joined Intel's team, we can mention Jim Keller, a former leading architect at AMD, who recently served as vice president of hardware development for autopilot at Tesla; as well as Darren McPhee, another industry veteran who previously worked at AMD.<\/p>\n

At the GDC 2019 conference, Intel held a presentation where, among several important announcements, it discussed the performance of its 11th-generation integrated graphics and also showed the first images of the upcoming Intel Graphics Xe graphics card. However, it later turned out that these were merely amateur concepts unrelated to the actual product.<\/p>\n
