Google representatives released their annual report on security and privacy today. It notes that despite the increase in downloads of potentially harmful applications, the overall state of the Android ecosystem has improved.<\/p>\n

The share of dangerous programs downloaded from Google Play increased from 0.02% to 0.04% during the reported period in 2017. However, if we exclude statistics concerning click fraud cases, we can see a significant decrease in potentially harmful downloads. The report also mentions that the company faces a challenging task of protecting over 2 billion devices running Android. The AI system Google Play Protect, created in 2017, which is capable of scanning over 50 billion applications daily, has made a substantial contribution to improving user security. This system will continue to be utilized, becoming an increasingly sophisticated tool in the fight against malicious software. It's worth noting the overall decline in the installation of harmful applications. In 2018, this figure was 0.45% of the total, while the previous year it stood at 0.56%.<\/p>\n

Despite ongoing efforts to secure Android devices, malware continues to appear on Google Play, changing publishers and titles. It is not uncommon for dangerous applications to be blocked only after millions of users have downloaded them. We hope that in the future, Google will continue to actively work towards ensuring the security of Android devices.<\/p>\n
