Red Moon, Kim Stanley Robinson<\/h3>\n

\nThe new novel by the author of the Martian Trilogy (Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars) takes place in 2047, where the Moon has been colonized by China. The book features three main characters: an American IT specialist, a Chinese journalist-blogger, and the daughter of a Chinese finance minister. All three become embroiled in harsh events that will affect not only the Moon but also Earth.<\/p>\n

Rusting Sea, Robert Cargill<\/h3>\n

\nThirty years ago, humanity lost a war against the uprising machines. The Earth is devastated, and only a few remaining robots roam the ashes and deserts. Two main artificial intelligences, residing in supercomputers, now attempt to connect all robots into a single network and turn them into extensions of themselves. The book narrates the adventures of a garbage robot wandering through the expanse of the American Midwest.<\/p>\n

Perfect Imperfection, Jacek Dukaj<\/h3>\n

The Return of the Eagle, Vladimir Fadeev<\/h3>\n

\nIn the late 1980s, a group of nuclear physicists tried to seize the opportunity to prevent the country's disaster by becoming the crew of the mystical ship \"Eagle,\" which invariably returns to our reality three years before a national tragedy. The outcome of the mission remains unknown, but it is in our hands. The setting is the village of Dedino, the birthplace of the Russian tricolor and the first military ship \"Eagle.\"<\/p>\n

\"Total Conflagration,\" Cezariusz Zbyszkowski<\/h3>\n

\n\"What
\nThis is a world where thoughts, feelings, and memories can be exchanged like files. A world where there is a war against the Locusts\u2014mutated humans whose goals are unknown, and communication has been lost with the territories they occupy. This is a world where artificial intelligence and modified soldiers have turned battles into an art form; a world where the soul is not a metaphor, but a very real phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Franciszek Elias, the heir to the \"Elias Electronics\" corporation, along with his family, takes refuge from the war in a vast family estate in the High Castle, not yet aware that he will soon witness incredible horrors related to the very essence of this reality. Meanwhile, the Heart of Darkness, an interdimensional ship that once vanished into the depths of space, reappears in orbit around the planet. Now caught in a space-time loop, it has become an impenetrable mystery, returning for the sixth time. The ship has lost communication, is sending no signals, and it is unknown what or who is on board. The only thing that is clear is that before disappearing, it discovered something unimaginable even compared to the goal of its mission\u2014to find the Higher Intelligence.<\/p>\n

Bran-dashmyg<\/h3>\n

\nThe series \"Black Mirror\" has long become a cultural phenomenon. The term \"series\" is applied to it conditionally; rather, it is an anthology of various scripts and visions of our near technological future. Just at the end of 2018, under the umbrella brand of \"Black Mirror,\" an interactive movie titled \"Bandersnatch\" was released. The main plot revolves around the mid-1980s, where a young man dreams of turning a choose-your-own-adventure book by one of the authors into a stunning computer game. For about 1.5 hours, viewers are repeatedly asked to make choices for the character, influencing the further progression of the plot. This mechanic is well-known to game lovers. However, while games usually boil down to a couple of different endings, \"Bandersnatch\" offers ten. One inconvenience: due to the technical implementation, the film can only be viewed on the Netflix website.<\/p>\n

Alita: Battle Angel<\/h3>\n

\nThis film is an adaptation of an old manga and anime, plus the creativity of the producers and director. It's a distant future, the middle of the third millennium. Humanity is not thriving: after a nightmarish war that ended 300 years ago, the elite settled in a giant flying city, while the destitute remnants of humanity survive in the slums below. Cyborgization is as common as brushing teeth in the morning, and often very little organic material remains of a person, everything else replaced with intricate mechanisms. One of the characters finds the remains of a cyborg girl in a junkyard and restores her, but she doesn't remember who she is or where she came from. Yet, the film has a telling title, and soon Alita demonstrates the incredible capabilities of her artificial body.<\/p>\n

Annihilation<\/h3>\n

\nA strange and unusual film for modern Hollywood. By all accounts, it is science fiction, but also a slow-burning psychological thriller.<\/p>\n

After a meteorite crash, an anomalous zone covered by an energy dome has formed on the coast of the United States, gradually expanding. It is impossible to see what is inside the zone from the outside, but it's clear there\u2019s nothing good there\u2014several reconnaissance groups have not returned. Natalie Portman plays a member of yet another group, this time consisting of five women scientists. This is the story of their journey to the epicenter of the zone.<\/p>\n

Upgrade<\/h3>\n

\n\"What
\n
\nAustralian cinema is quite unique, and 'Upgrade' is a good example of that. Set in the near future, filled with drones, mass chip implantation, cyber implants, self-driving cars, and other attributes. The main character is far from all these high technologies; he loves classic muscle cars, which he restores by hand for wealthy clients. After a strange car accident, a gang attacks him and his wife. His wife is killed, and he is left paralyzed below the neck. One of his clients, a very peculiar type and the owner of a cutting-edge tech company, offers the protagonist to implant a new secret development \u2014 a chip with built-in artificial intelligence that takes over body control. Now, he can begin his search for his wife's murderers.<\/p>\n

And yes, Australians are quite skilled at shooting action scenes.<\/p>\n
