Mozilla intended<\/a><\/noindex> to discontinue using IRC as the main platform for live communication among project participants. The IRC server at irc.mozilla.org is planning to be decommissioned in the coming months, following a migration to a modern web-oriented communication platform. The decision on the new platform has not yet been made, but it is known that Mozilla will not develop its own system and will instead use an existing popular solution for text chats. The final choice of the new platform will be made after discussion with the community. Connecting to communication channels will require authentication and consent to the rules<\/a><\/noindex> of the community.<\/p>\n

The reasons for discontinuing IRC include the moral and technical obsolescence of the protocol, which in modern realities is not as convenient as one would like, is often blocked by firewalls, and poses a significant barrier to newcomers connecting to discussions. Additionally, IRC lacks adequate tools to protect against spam, abuse, harassment, and member bullying.<\/p>\n
