Recently, the company has started working<\/noindex> about a new feature that will prevent websites from blocking the «Back» button.<\/p>\n

As is known, there are pages that make the browser's back button almost useless. The essence is that browsers forcefully keep users on the site by blocking the action of the «Back» button. This is done using redirects or manipulations with the history of visited sites.<\/p>\n

It works like this: when the «Back» button is pressed, the site checks the browsing history and loads the same site that was already opened. The commit on this topic states that this way websites deceive users, causing their irritation.<\/p>\n

The company announced a new behavior for the «Back» button. It involves skipping those pages that forcibly add entries to the browser's history or automatically redirect to other pages. Simply put, such sites will no longer be able to keep users from navigating and will not require mandatory tab closure. Moreover, this innovation will only affect the user interface of the «Back» button and not the history.back \/ forward API.<\/p>\n

This feature is still in development and will eventually become available on all platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS. It is not yet specified when this will be possible. Most likely, it pertains to a future build of Chrome.<\/p>\n
