Hans De Goede (Hans de Goede<\/a><\/noindex>), a developer of Fedora Linux working at Red Hat, presented<\/a><\/noindex> The project \u201cWayland Itches,\u201d aimed at addressing bugs and issues that arise during everyday use of the GNOME desktop running on Wayland. <\/p>\n

Although Fedora has long offered a GNOME session based on Wayland by default, Hans is one of<\/a><\/noindex> the developers<\/a><\/noindex> libinput and input systems for Wayland had been continuing to use a session with the X server due to various minor issues in the Wayland-based environment. Hans decided to tackle these problems himself, switched to Wayland by default, and founded the project \u201cWayland Itches,\u201d where he began fixing emerging bugs and issues. Hans invites users to send him feedback on GNOME\u2019s performance in Wayland via email («hdegoede at redhat.com») with details, and he will attempt to resolve the reported issues.<\/p>\n

Currently, he has successfully made the TopIcons extension work with Wayland (there had been issues with crashing, high CPU load, and non-responsive clicks on icons) and resolved problems with hotkeys and shortcuts in VirtualBox virtual machines. Hans tried switching to the build<\/a><\/noindex> of Firefox with Wayland, but had to revert to the x11 build due to<\/a><\/noindex> issues that he is now working to resolve with Mozilla developers.<\/a><\/noindex> issues<\/a><\/noindex>, which he is currently trying to resolve together with Mozilla developers. <\/p>\n
