Mozilla has created a universal hub for smart home devices, allowing the integration of devices from different vendors and protocols (including Zigbee and Z-Wave), enabling control without cloud dependency and from a single location. A year ago there was news<\/a><\/noindex> about the first version, and today I am releasing the translation of the recently updated documentation, which addresses most fundamental questions regarding the project. WebThings Gateway for Raspberry Pi<\/h2>\n

Mozilla's WebThings Gateway<\/a><\/noindex> is software for gateways used in smart home systems that allows for direct monitoring and control of smart devices over the internet without intermediaries.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What You'll Need<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

  1. Computer Raspberry Pi<\/a><\/noindex><\/strong> and a power supply (at least 2A required for Raspberry Pi 3)<\/li>\n
  2. microSD card<\/strong> (at least 8 GB, class 10)<\/li>\n
  3. USB adapter<\/strong> (see the list of compatible adapters<\/a><\/noindex>)\n <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note:<\/strong> Raspberry Pi 3 comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A USB adapter is needed to connect devices via protocols like Zigbee and Z-Wave.<\/p>\n

    1. Download the image<\/h3>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Download the image from the Mozilla IoT<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    2. Flash the image<\/h3>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Flash the image onto the microSD card. There are various methods<\/a><\/noindex> for writing. We recommend using Etcher.<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

    1. Open Etcher<\/li>\n
    2. Insert the memory card into your computer's adapter.<\/li>\n
    3. Select the image as the source<\/li>\n
    4. Select the memory card<\/li>\n
    5. Click 'Flash!'<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Once done, remove the memory card.<\/p>\n

      3. Booting Raspberry Pi<\/h3>\n

      1. Insert the memory card into the Raspberry Pi<\/li>\n
      2. Connect USB adapters if available<\/li>\n
      3. Connect the power supply to begin booting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Note:<\/strong> The first boot of the Raspberry Pi may take 2-3 minutes.<\/p>\n

        <\/p>\n

        4. Connecting via Wi-Fi<\/h3>\n

        <\/p>\n

        After booting, the gateway will create an access point named 'WebThings Gateway XXXX<\/strong>' (where XXXX are the last four digits of the Raspberry Pi's MAC address). Connect to this access point using your computer or smartphone.<\/p>\n

        Once connected, you should see the WebThings gateway welcome screen, which will then begin to search for your home Wi-Fi network.<\/p>\n
