As our colleagues from the website suggest AnandTech<\/a><\/noindex>, one of the world's first developers of SoC on the open RISC-V architecture, the company SiFive<\/a><\/noindex> has acquired a portfolio of intellectual property in the form of USB 2.0 and USB 3.x interface IP blocks. The deal was made with Innovative Logic, a specialist in developing ready-to-integrate licensed blocks with interfaces. Previously, Innovative Logic was already noted<\/a><\/noindex> for its interesting offers on free trial licensing of USB 3.0 IP blocks. The deal with SiFive has become the pinnacle of such experiments. In the future, the former property of Innovative Logic will continue its life as an integral part of free and commercial platforms for designing SoCs on the RISC-V architecture. Huawei will definitely appreciate this if it is finally pressed<\/a><\/noindex> by ARM and x86.<\/p>\n

Before acquiring the IP blocks from Innovative Logic, SiFive was forced to license USB interface blocks from third-party developers, which, in particular, limited the opportunities for free licensing of platforms for developing solutions on RISC-V. Consequently, interest in RISC-V was declining. The deal with Innovative Logic will endow the platform with the most advanced interfaces, including USB 3.x Type-C, the development of which has been completed by only a few companies in the world.<\/p>\n

Along with the IP assets of SiFive, the team from Innovative Logic based in Bangalore, India, will be transferred. Within SiFive, former Innovative Logic specialists will continue developing IP blocks with USB interfaces. The details of the deal are not disclosed. It is also unclear for which technology processes the contracted blocks with interfaces were created. It is only known that they are suitable for integration into SoCs manufactured using 'improved processes.' No further information is available.<\/p>\n
