Currently, Google supports only two operating systems: Android for mobile devices and Chrome OS for laptops. While they have many similarities, they still do not form a unified ecosystem. The company is working to change this, first by introducing the Play Store for Chrome OS and then by adding Instant Tethering support for many mobile devices and Chromebooks.<\/p>\n

It seems the development team is currently working on adding greater integration between systems. A commit titled «OneChrome demo» has been found in the bug tracker, resembling an unfinished project that includes several features. The most important of these is the ability to share phone numbers between systems.<\/p>\n

According to the code, the function allows sending a number found on the internet from a Chromebook to an Android device. This suggests a unified clipboard (hello, Windows 10 May 2019 Update). It is also stated that the data is transmitted over a secure channel with end-to-end encryption, making man-in-the-middle attacks impossible. In other words, the search giant is attempting to create a system similar to the iOS + macOS pairing.<\/p>\n

Additionally, there are mentions of syncing Wi-Fi passwords between devices. According to comments, this pertains only to Chrome OS; however, one Google reviewer claims that this feature may also appear on Android. It goes without saying that all these features are in the very early stages of development. The company has not specified even a tentative release date, but it is likely that they will eventually be introduced on the Canary channel.<\/p>\n
