\nToday we will introduce the new product from Snom \u2014 an entry-level desktop phone in the D7xx series, the Snom D717. It is available in black and white finishes.

Appearance<\/h2>\n

\nThe D717 sits in the model line between the D725<\/a><\/noindex> and the D715. It mainly differs from its 'neighbors' by having a display with a different aspect ratio, closer to square; specifically, this new model resembles the older model, Snom D735<\/a><\/noindex>. Of course, such a display is more convenient because it accommodates more information, meaning you have to scroll less often, for example, when you need to find a contact in the phonebook. Like its older counterparts, the display and context keys are separated by a glossy plastic panel.<\/p>\n

\nThe color display has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.<\/p>\n

\nTo the right of it are three programmable keys with dual-color LED backlighting, while beneath the display are four context-sensitive keys for quick access to the main phone functions.<\/p>\n

\nTo the left of the context-sensitive keys is a light sensor, which allows the phone to automatically adjust the display backlighting brightness. On one hand, this saves power, and if a company has a couple thousand of these phones, the adaptive brightness feature will help save a significant amount over the year. But this is of interest to businesses, while the users benefit since the automatic brightness adjustment according to lighting significantly enhances the comfort of using the phone. If the room is dimly lit, the overly bright display won't dazzle or distract you. On the other hand, when the room is brightly lit by the sun, you won't have to strain your eyes trying to read the faint numbers and letters.<\/p>\n

Below the display is a stylish control joystick along with corresponding confirmation and cancel keys, as well as a 'Do Not Disturb' mode button and a voicemail listening key.<\/p>\n

Capabilities<\/h2>\n

\nThe Snom D717 is compatible with all SIP switches and IP PBXs, so you won't have any difficulties integrating this model into your existing communication system. The phone supports up to 6 SIP accounts concurrently. It has a built-in phone book with 1000 entries, supports three-way conference calls, and offers wideband audio quality, including when using the speakerphone \u2014 a pleasant and somewhat unexpected feature for an affordable model. The Snom D717 also includes a built-in comfort noise generator and voice activity detection (meaning the phone turns off the microphone while you're silent during a conversation and activates it as soon as you start speaking).<\/p>\n

The phone can be configured extensively, including entirely remotely via a web interface, making it very fast to deploy large distributed phone networks. Furthermore, the D717 has a firmware and settings automatic update feature. URL dialing is supported, and there is an auto-redial function if the subscriber's number is busy. It features a 'blacklist', lists of missed and incoming calls, as well as dialed numbers (with 100 entries in each list, which is sufficient for most usage scenarios).<\/p>\n

Like any self-respecting office phone, the D717 is equipped with call hold functionality (with background music if your IP PBX supports it), two call transfer modes \u2014 direct (also known as 'blind', allowing you to transfer an active call to another agent without prior consultation) and attended, as well as call forwarding and parking. The Snom D717 supports the Unified Communications protocol, can work with multiple external audio devices, and features a built-in HTTP\/HTTPS web server along with a wide range of codecs:<\/p>\n
