There's also a USB-C port on the bottom edge, but unfortunately, a microSD slot has not been included\u2014so you will have to rely solely on the built-in memory. While 32 GB may not seem insufficient, downloading a lot of technical literature with heavy PDFs could present challenges. There are no speakers or even a 3.5mm headphone jack, making it primarily a READER. The back of the device is almost bare, adorned only by the ONYX BOOX logo.<\/p>\n

\nSeveral months ago, ONYX BOOX migrated its modern e-reader lineup to a new hardware platform, resulting in many aspects being revised. Among these are a 30% increase in PDF file opening speed, improved performance in 'two-page' mode, handwritten input, text input via keyboard through notes, application management, and overall optimization.<\/p>\n

\nThe Nova Pro has already received a firmware update right 'out of the box' that applies only to this specific model as well as to future generations of Note Pro. Among significant changes is the improved functionality for editing PDF files and the handwriting recognition system that converts handwriting into text.<\/i><\/p>\n

Since we began discussing the interface, let's touch on some of its features. At the very top of the screen, there is a group of icons for the Android user interface. This includes the remaining battery charge of your device, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and volume control buttons. If you tap the top of the screen, a small drop-down menu will appear, allowing you to quickly turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.<\/p>\n

\nONYX BOOX has done something interesting with the library where all your PDF files and e-books are stored. It can scan metadata to add covers to books that don't have them. This often occurs not only with free books but also with those released by major publishers. It's really cool because you no longer need to use programs like Caliber for this. This is in addition to the already familiar library features like displaying books in a list or grid format (and of course deleting).<\/p>\n

\nThe file manager allows you to browse all the files you have uploaded to your device, including e-books and PDFs that are not directly copied into the main book section, as well as downloaded applications.<\/p>\n

The dual touch control is provided by two separate touch layers. Above the surface of the ONYX BOOX Nova Pro screen is a capacitive layer that allows you to turn pages and zoom into documents with intuitive two-finger movements. Below the E Ink panel, there is a WACOM touch layer for making notes or sketches with a stylus. And this is despite the fact that the distinctive feature of such a screen remains its closest similarity to paper (hence the technology is called 'electronic paper').<\/p>\n

There are several text input modes available \u2014 for example, the traditional one with a keyboard. This text can be moved with the surrounding frame. For instance, if there is a need to rotate it 180 degrees, resize it, or drag it anywhere in the document. It's a great feature for artists who draw comics or manga \u2014 you can easily add 'bubbles' with dialogues for the characters. But the main thing is that if you write a lot of text by hand, the system automatically converts it into the required text.<\/p>\n

\nUsing a stylus provides true convenience, and erasing content is also implemented very simply. On the side, there is an eraser that by default just undoes the last action. But there are more advanced settings for deleting content in a specific area, highlighting, as well as removing all content on any page. Why so many? The higher the number of pressure levels, the closer the experience of using the device is to that of regular paper. If you want to draw a very thin line, just lightly glide the stylus across the screen; if you need a thicker line, apply a bit more pressure.<\/p>\n

It feels like the stylus is very well calibrated\u2014you can easily glide the pen (there\u2019s no other way to describe it) and reproduce visual images with maximum accuracy, as if you\u2019re drawing with an ordinary pen (the author of this review isn't an artist, but appreciated the functionality). The stylus remains constantly active and doesn\u2019t require charging: if you need to sketch or jot something down, just take it out and do it. <\/p>\n

Since we are discussing the use of Nova Pro among professionals, there are several different backgrounds for text input, such as sheet music or plain white text. Additionally, you have the ability to import your own backgrounds that you use at work (or if you just decided to go shopping).<\/p>\n

\nThe 7.8-inch screen is sufficient to read your favorite works and work with technical documentation, but my favorite in this regard is still MAX 2<\/a><\/noindex>, as it supports A4 format documents (and can function as an external monitor). However, this device is a player from a different league (a completely different one, to be honest) and it is also more expensive. <\/p>\n

Page turning is fast, and there are many settings that allow you to change the font type, font size, line spacing, margins, and more. <\/p>\n

\nThe Nova Pro has several different features that I really liked. When reading an e-book, you can disable the navigation panel and other interface windows, so the entire page is just text, without any distracting notifications in the system tray. <\/p>\n

The contrast adjustment allows you to change the text tone. I like how the thickening of thin lines is implemented because you don\u2019t need to choose a separate 'bold' font (like Ember Bold); you can just use your favorite one. By the way, this is useful when working with scanned documents, where text and graphics are often too faint. If you set your text preferences to your liking, you can check a special box in the settings to apply them to every book afterward.<\/p>\n

For example, a blank page will be on one side of the screen, while the text will be placed on the adjacent side. Nova Pro<\/a><\/noindex> is definitely suitable for those who want a large 7-inch display with a WACOM screen and stylus. This is a significant advantage over other readers that primarily just allow reading books. Both professionals looking to replace paper with an advanced solution and students seeking a device for quickly taking notes and lectures, without splurging on more expensive gadgets, will appreciate the Nova Pro. <\/p>\n

Yes, 27,000 rubles (the price of the Nova Pro) is quite a sum, but it should be understood that for this money the manufacturer offers not just a 'reader,' but a full-fledged working tool with an advanced E-Ink screen (which, by the way, is monopolized in the display market, which also justifies the price). <\/p>\n

Wait, what\u2019s in the box?<\/h2>\n

\nIn fact, the intent behind writing this piece wasn\u2019t to create another boring review packed with unboxing, benchmarks, and other trendy terms.
