    What is Slurm and how has it evolved<\/h2>\n

    <\/p>\n

    A year ago, we had the idea to conduct courses on Kubernetes. In August '18, we held Slurm-1: it was challenging, with continuous presentations (when the presentation is being polished on stage), alongside numerous everyday issues. Trials bring people together: participants from the first Slurm, like the Fellowship of the Ring, still keep in touch with each other.<\/p>\n

    The first Slurm gave birth to the idea of MegaSlurm. We asked people what topics interested them, and in October, we held an advanced course based on participants' requests. It turned out to be engaging but a one-time event. By May '19, we had prepared a real advanced course, complete with its own logic and internal narrative.<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Over the year, Slurm has also transformed organizationally:
    \n\u2014 Docker and Ansible were removed from the main program and made into separate online courses.
    \n\u2014 We organized technical support to help students troubleshoot educational clusters.
    \n\u2014 Speakers now have methodological support.<\/p>\n

    While at the St. Petersburg Slurm in February there were mainly beginners, at the Moscow Slurm, people generally had already tried Kubernetes. There were many advanced questions that made us think.<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    While in St. Petersburg they asked when we would release our fork of kubespray, in Moscow they were already asking why we suggest using our fork instead of the original kubespray. This shows critical thinking from mid-senior level participants.<\/p>\n

    The practice was challenging, and people made many mistakes, which is great: you need to learn from mistakes during training, not in battle.<\/p>\n

    We frequently encountered limits on obtaining certificates, limits on downloads from GitHub, etc. This is life\u2014we simultaneously deployed about 200 clusters in the Selectel cloud. No one prepares their resources and limits for such demands. <\/p>\n
