After several years of development following the last significant release (almost three years), the next release of OpenMandriva \u2013 Lx 4.0 has been presented. The distribution has been developed by the community since 2012, after the Mandriva S.A. company ceased further development. A new name was chosen by user voting, as the company refused to transfer rights to the previous name.<\/p>\n

Today, a distinguishing feature of OpenMandriva is the use of LLVM\/clang, focusing on high optimization levels for all system components. It includes many applications specifically designed for OpenMandriva (OM), and significant work is being done to improve support for specific hardware platforms and device lines. In addition to traditional installation, special live mode features are offered. The default graphical environment is KDE, along with systemd tools.<\/p>\n

In this release, as planned, the transition to RPMv4 in conjunction with DNF and Dnfdragora has been made. Previously, RPMv5, urpmi, and the GUI rpmdrake were the foundation. The migration was prompted by the fact that the new tool stack is supported by Red Hat. Additionally, RPMv4 is used in the overwhelming majority of rpm distributions. On the other hand, RPMv5 has seen virtually no development over the last decade.<\/p>\n
