Introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release of the user distribution PCLinuxOS 2019.06<\/a><\/noindex>. The distribution was founded in 2003 based on Mandriva Linux, but later diverged into an independent project. The peak popularity of PCLinuxOS came in 2010, when, according to the results<\/a><\/noindex> a survey by Linux Journal readers, PCLinuxOS was only surpassed in popularity by Ubuntu (in the 2013 ranking, PCLinuxOS already ranked<\/a><\/noindex> 10th place). The distribution is aimed at use in Live mode but also supports installation on a hard drive. For download, are prepared<\/a><\/noindex> full (1.8 GB) and reduced (916 MB) versions of the distribution based on the KDE desktop environment. Separately, the community boot images are being developed based on<\/a><\/noindex> provides builds based on Xfce, MATE, LXQt, LXDE, and Trinity desktops.<\/p>\n

PCLinuxOS features the use of the package management tools APT from Debian GNU\/Linux combined with the RPM package manager, belonging to the class of rolling distributions where package updates are released continuously, allowing users to switch to the latest software versions without waiting for the next distribution release. The PCLinuxOS repository contains about 14,000 packages. <\/p>\n

In the new release, the package versions have been updated, including the Linux kernel 5.1,

\nKDE Frameworks 5.59.0 and KDE Plasma 5.16.0. The base installation includes applications such as the backup utility Timeshift, password manager Bitwarden, photo processing system Darktable, image editor GIMP, image collection management system Digikam, cloud storage data synchronization tool Megasync, remote access system Teamviewer, application management system Rambox, note-taking software Simplenotes, multimedia center Kodi, e-book reading interface Calibre, financial package Skrooge, browser Firefox, email client Thunderbird, music player Strawberry, and video player VLC. <\/p>\n
