SUSE 15 SP2 packages have already been <noindex>introduced</noindex> the release of the industrial distribution of SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP1. The SUSE 15 SP1 packages are already <noindex>as the foundation for the community-supported distribution</noindex> used as a basis in the community-supported distribution openSUSE Leap 15.1. Based on <noindex>platform</noindex> SUSE Linux Enterprise Server <noindex>SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop</noindex>, <noindex>, SUSE Manager, and SUSE Linux Enterprise High Performance Computing have also been developed. The distribution can be</noindex>used free of charge, but access to updates and fixes is limited to a 60-day trial period. The release is available in builds for architectures aarch64, ppc64le, s390x, and x86_64. <noindex>download</noindex> Instead of a unified set of installation DVD media, a minimal online installation image and a full installation image for systems without network access are offered.

<noindex>Key</noindex> <noindex>changes</noindex>:

The migration function of server installations from openSUSE to the industrial distribution SUSE Linux Enterprise has been simplified and accelerated. This allows system integrators to first create and test a working solution based on openSUSE and then switch to the commercial version with full support, SLA, certification, long-term update releases, and advanced mass deployment tools. For users of SUSE Linux Enterprise, a repository has been provided <noindex>SUSE Package Hub</noindex>, offering access to additional applications and new versions supported by the openSUSE community;

In the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server edition for ARM64 architecture, the number of <noindex>supported SoCs has been doubled</noindex> and hardware support has been expanded. For example, support for audio and video transmission via HDMI has been added for 64-bit Raspberry Pi boards, the Chrony time synchronization system has been included, and a separate ISO image for installation has been prepared;

Work has been done to optimize performance and reduce latency when using systems with Intel Optane DC persistent memory and second-generation <noindex>Intel Xeon Scalable processors.</noindex>;

Full support for the AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization (AMD SEV) protection mechanism has been provided, allowing for transparent memory encryption of virtual machines, where only the current guest system has access to the decrypted data. Other virtual machines and the hypervisor receive encrypted data when attempting to access this memory;

Support for encryption of individual memory pages has been added using the technology SME (Secure Memory Encryption) introduced in AMD processors. SME allows memory pages to be marked for encryption, after which the data pages will be automatically encrypted when written to DRAM and decrypted when read from DRAM. SME is supported in AMD processors starting from the 17h family;

Experimental support for transactional updates has been introduced, which <noindex>allow</noindex> Update the distribution in atomic mode, without separately applying the new version of each package. The implementation of transactional updates is based on the capabilities of the Btrfs file system, standard package repositories, and familiar tools such as snapper and zypper. Unlike the previously available snapshot and rollback system for package installations, the new method creates a snapshot and performs the update within it, without touching the running system. If the update is successful, the updated snapshot is marked as active and used by default after rebooting;

Simplified installation with a modular architecture "Modular+", within which specific capabilities such as server products, desktops, cloud systems, developer tools, and container management tools are formatted as modules. Updates and fixes for these modules are released within a separate support cycle and can be generated more quickly, without waiting for the update of the entire monolithic distribution. Now available in modular form are products such as SUSE Manager, SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service;

The configuration file resolv.conf has been moved from the /etc directory to /run (/etc/resolv.conf is now a symbolic link);

The dynamic memory allocation mode for the Xen root environment has been disabled. For dom0, 10% of the RAM size plus 1GB is now allocated by default (for instance, if there is 32GB of RAM, 4.2GB will be allocated for Dom0);

GNOME performance has been improved on systems with high pixel density (HiDPI). If the screen DPI exceeds 144, scaling of 2:1 is now automatically applied in GNOME (this value can be changed in the GNOME Control Center). Fractional scaling and the use of multiple monitors with different DPIs are not yet supported. As the desktop environment, GNOME 3.26 is offered, which on x86-64 systems runs by default over Wayland;

A GNOME initial setup wizard (gnome-initial-setup) has been added, which launches on the first login after installation, providing options to configure the keyboard layout and input methods (other GNOME Initial Setup options are disabled);

Support for Free Space Tree (Free Space Cache v2), storage of the swap partition in a file, and modification of UUID metadata has been added to Btrfs;

 Python 2 has been excluded from the basic supply, with only Python 3 remaining (Python 2 is now available as a separately installable module).

<noindex></noindex>

Source: opennet.ru

SUSE Linux Enterprise […]

[702

post-35642","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news

 <!-- All in One SEO 5.0.1.1 -
