Situation<\/a><\/noindex> regarding the discontinuation of 32-bit packages in Ubuntu has received a new impetus for development. On the discussion platform, Steve Langasek from Canonical announced<\/a><\/noindex>, plans to utilize library packages from Ubuntu 18.04. This will allow the use of games and applications for the x86 architecture, though there will be no support for the libraries themselves. In other words, they will remain in the status they have in Ubuntu 18.04.<\/p>\n

This will allow you to install and run games using Steam, Wine, and so on in Ubuntu 19.10. Given that the 18.04 build will be supported in the free variant until April 2023, and in the paid version until 2028, libraries will simply be ported. It is expected that this will partially resolve the issue of compatibility with 32-bit applications.<\/p>\n

Another option is to run games and applications in an Ubuntu 18.04 environment or as snap packages in runtime core18. However, this is not suitable for running Wine. Additionally, the discontinuation of 32-bit libraries will render some Linux printer drivers inoperable. As a result, Valve intends to cease official support for Steam in Ubuntu 19.10 and future builds.<\/p>\n

Instead of Ubuntu, another distribution is planned to be used; however, it is still unclear which version this will be. It is worth noting that this issue will also affect Linux Mint and some other derivative distributions.
