Published<\/a><\/noindex> Emergency release of the mail server Exim 4.92.1<\/a><\/noindex> in which a critical vulnerability (CVE-2019-13917) has been fixed, allowing for remote code execution with root privileges under certain specific configuration settings. <\/p>\n

The vulnerability manifests<\/a><\/noindex> Starting from version 4.85, when using the operator ${sort} in the configuration, if the elements in the 'sort' list can be passed by an attacker (for example, through the variables $local_part and $domain). By default, this operator is not applied in the configuration provided in the basic Exim distribution and in the Debian and Ubuntu packages (likely in other distributions as well). To check your system for vulnerabilities, you can run the command 'exim -bP config | grep sort'. <\/p>\n

Package updates addressing the vulnerability have already been released for Debian<\/a><\/noindex> and Ubuntu<\/a><\/noindex>. Updates are not yet available for openSUSE<\/a><\/noindex>, Alpine<\/a><\/noindex>, FreeBSD<\/a><\/noindex> and Arch Linux<\/a><\/noindex>.
