Xfce consists of a number of interconnected components that can be used in other projects if desired. Among these components are: a window manager, an application launcher panel, a display manager, a session manager, and power management, the Thunar file manager, the Midori web browser, the Parole media player, the mousepad text editor, and the environment settings system. <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/7bc43cefe6ac6017c63662433c7ea67c.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Key <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/xfce.org\/download\/changelogs\/4.14\">innovations<\/a><\/noindex>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Moving from GTK 2 to the GTK 3 library;\n<li class=\"l\"> In the composite manager xfwm4, vsync has been added via OpenGL, supporting libepoxy and DRI3\/Present, with GLX used instead of Xrender. This feature can be useful in multi-monitor configurations for linking panels to a specific monitor or hiding unnecessary information when organizing presentation displays.\n<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/simon.shimmerproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/display_settings_primary.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/26c5d7542c4e47e787d0c8e72395e144.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> The appearance settings dialog has been updated with an option to enable window scaling and provides the ability to select a monospace font. Support for GObject introspection has been added, allowing plugins for the panel to be created in various programming languages (e.g., Python). The ability to embed a settings dialog into xfce4-settings-manager has been provided. Support for configuring the icon size, common to both the panel and all installed plugins, has been added. The configurator also includes settings for automatically calculating the icon size based on the panel width and binding the icon size to different panel instances.\n<p>The window grouping tools have been improved \u2014 the buttons for grouped windows now handle states such as window activity, window minimization, and the presence of important information. A new indicator for grouped windows has been implemented, and the overall layout of elements has been updated.<br \/>\n<center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/simon.shimmerproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshot_2019-07-01_22-20-26.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/45f14149a180cd6805b87101282e6c96.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p>New CSS style classes have been introduced for use in theme creation, such as a separate button class for operations with window groups and specific settings for vertical and horizontal panel placement. Symbolic icons are utilized in panel plugins and applications. Outdated widgets have been replaced;<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/294fd31248eb99a7c3c312770256069e.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> The Panel Profiles utility has been included, allowing users to create, save, and load layouts of panel elements;\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The xfce4-session manager now supports launching applications considering priority groups, allowing the definition of dependency chains during startup. Previously, applications launched all at once, causing race condition issues (such as theme disappearance in xfce4-panel, launching multiple instances of nm-applet, etc.). Now, applications are launched in groups. The splash screen during startup has been discontinued.\n<p>Improvements have been made to the login and logout management interface. In addition to the previously available autostart, support for executing user-defined handlers (arbitrary commands) upon logout, sleep, or restart has been added. Management of GTK application sessions via DBus has been ensured. Support for hybrid sleep mode has been implemented. The session selection interface and related settings have been enhanced;<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/simon.shimmerproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/xfce4-session-current-300x264.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/6deed9da105bca2b7581cc62370c5fdc.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The power management interface (xfce4-power-manager) has been improved. Enhanced support for desktop systems, which no longer displays warnings about the absence of a battery. Filtering of power-related events passed to xfce4-notifyd for logging has been added (for example, brightness change events are not passed). The power management interface can now be invoked by pressing the XF86Battery button.<br \/>\nThe panel plugin has added options to display the remaining battery time and charge percentage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The Gigolo application has been updated with a graphical interface for configuring network storage sharing using GIO\/GVfs. The program allows for quick mounting of remote file systems and managing bookmarks for external storage in the file manager.\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/Dqi_eYGWwAMkvkO.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/e3ee36edb117073601808033ec80ceb3.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The Parole multimedia player has been stabilized, using the GStreamer framework and the GTK+ library. It includes plugins for minimizing to the system tray, manipulating stream metadata, setting a custom window title, and preventing sleep mode during video playback. It significantly simplifies operation on systems that do not support hardware-accelerated video decoding. An auto-select mode for the most optimal video output mechanism has been added and is enabled by default. A compact interface option has been implemented. Improved support for streaming and playing files from external systems.\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/b85585ea2da61c4539975360de6b5c0c.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The Thunar file manager has been updated, with a completely redesigned file path display panel. The panel now includes buttons for navigating to previously opened and next paths, as well as for moving to the home directory and parent directory. On the right side of the panel, there is an icon that, when clicked, opens a dialog for editing the file path string. Support has been added for processing 'folder.jpg' icons, which can define alternatives to the default directory icons. Support for Bluray has been added to the volume control interface.<br \/>\nThe screenshot below shows the old and new versions of the panel for comparison:<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/andreldm.com\/assets\/img\/thunar-1.8.0-comparison.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ac9abc90738394c92d42a6c82f0b6b62.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p> The Thunar Plugin API (thunarx) has been updated, introducing support for GObject introspection and bindings in various programming languages. It ensures the display of file sizes in bytes. The ability to assign handlers for certain user actions has been introduced. The usage of Thunar UCA (User Configurable Actions) for external network resources has been implemented. The styling and interface have been optimized.<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> The thumbnail display service (tumbler) has added support for the Fujifilm RAF format.\n<li class=\"l\"> The Ristretto image viewer's interface has been modernized, now ported to GTK3. A button has been added to set an image as the desktop wallpaper.\n<li class=\"l\"> An option has been implemented to launch the application search interface in a separate window, simplifying navigation through search results using the keyboard. The file search interface has been integrated. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.xfce.org\/apps\/catfish\/start\">Catfish<\/a><\/noindex>;<br \/>\n<center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.xfce.org\/_media\/apps\/catfish\/catfish_window.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Xfce 4.14 user environment \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/427e6be22707c7557625285fcf713c2e.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> A custom <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.xfce.org\/apps\/screensaver\/start\">screensaver<\/a><\/noindex> (xfce4-screensaver) has been added, ensuring seamless integration with Xfce. The option to disable sleep mode and screen shutdown during video playback is provided (including when watching YouTube in Chromium).\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> An option has been added to the desktop to include the next background image (Add Next Background) and synchronize wallpaper selection via AccountsService. Interaction with the desktop has improved, and customization support through themes has been enhanced. Support for orientation selection when placing icons has been added.\n<li class=\"l\"> The screenshot utility now includes the ability to move the selected area with height and width values displayed. The image upload dialog through the imgur service has been modified;\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for the MPRIS2 protocol for remote playback control in multimedia players has been added to the panel plugin for sound management using PulseAudio. Multimedia keys can now be applied across the entire desktop (by launching an additional background process xfce4-volumed-pulse);\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for GObject introspection and the Vala language has been added to the settings management backend (xfconf) and some other components of Xfce;\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> Instead of dbus-glib for messaging over the D-Bus bus, the library has been engaged. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.freedesktop.org\/software\/gstreamer-sdk\/data\/docs\/latest\/gio\/ch30.html\">GDbus<\/a><\/noindex> and a transport layer based on GIO.
