One of the upcoming updates to the Chrome browser will completely remove support for the FTP protocol. This is stated in a special document from Google addressing this topic. However, the \"innovations\" will only come into effect in a year or even later.<\/p>\n

\"Chrome<\/p>\n

Proper support for the FTP protocol in the Chrome browser has always been a contentious issue for Google developers. One reason for abandoning FTP is the lack of support for secure connections over this protocol in Chromium. Back in 2015, Google developers opened a topic in the official Chromium bug tracker requesting the removal of FTP support. Recently, this \"bug\" caught their attention, leading to the decision to completely eliminate FTP components from the browser. Additionally, the company notes that only 0.1% of Chrome users have ever opened pages with file directories.<\/p>\n

Refusal to support the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is quite expected<\/a><\/noindex>, as using this protocol in Chrome is already difficult\u2014by default, the browser recognizes it as insecure and only allows access upon user confirmation. Mozilla shares a similar view on this data transfer protocol; in Firefox version 60, they added a feature to manually disable FTP. In the subsequent update, version 61, the download of resources stored on FTP was blocked. <\/p>\n

The complete withdrawal of the protocol is planned to begin in Chrome version 80, which will be released in the first quarter of 2020, and in the following 82nd update, components and code related to FTP will be entirely removed.<\/p>\n
