The distribution is built on the original set of boot scripts and includes packages imported from Debian Stretch, with additions from the Debian \"testing\" and \"unstable\" branches. For booting <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"ftp:\/\/ftp.knoppix.nl\/pub\/os\/Linux\/distr\/knoppix-dvd\/\">is available<\/a><\/noindex> the LiveDVD build, sized at 4.5 GB. <\/p>\n<p>The custom shell of the distribution is based on the lightweight desktop environment LXDE, built on the GTK library and capable of running on low-power systems. Instead of the standard SysV initialization system, a new boot system, Microknoppix, is used, significantly speeding up the boot process by parallelizing the launch of services and delaying hardware initialization. When using a USB Flash drive, user settings and additional installed programs do not disappear after rebooting the system\u2014data saved between sessions is placed in the file KNOPPIX\/knoppix-data.img, which can be encrypted if desired using the AES-256 algorithm. The package includes about 4000 packages.<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.knopper.net\/knoppix\/knoppix86-desktop.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of the Live Distribution KNOPPIX 8.6\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/44e6ef5741c0c042e927d4b603ef0087.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p>New version features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Synchronization of the package base with Debian Buster. Video drivers and desktop environment components are imported from Debian\/testing and Debian\/unstable.\n<li class=\"l\"> The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.2 with patches for <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cloop\">cloop<\/a><\/noindex> and <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aufs\">aufs<\/a><\/noindex>. Two kernel builds for 32-bit and 64-bit systems are supported. When using the LiveDVD on systems with a 64-bit CPU, the 64-bit kernel is automatically loaded;\n<li class=\"l\"> For computers equipped with only a CD drive, a reduced boot image is placed in the KNOPPIX directory, allowing booting from CD while using the rest of the distribution from a USB Flash drive;\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> By default, the LXDE shell is used with the file manager PCMANFM 1.3.1, but the package also includes KDE Plasma 5 (activated with the boot option \"knoppix64 desktop=kde\") and GNOME 3 (\"knoppix64 desktop=gnome\");\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The components of the graphical stack have been updated (x server 1.20.4), and new versions of graphical drivers are included. Support for the composite manager compiz is offered;\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> New versions of programs, including Wine 4.0, qemu-kvm 3.1, Chromium 76.0.3809.87, Firefox 68.0.1 (including Ublock Origin and Noscript), LibreOffice 6.3.0-rc2, GIMP 2.10.8.\n<li class=\"l\"> The Tor Browser has been added, available for launching via the Knoppix menu;\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\">The package includes a selection of programs for working with 3D printers and creating 3D models: <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openscad.org\/\">OpenScad 2015.03<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/slic3r.org\/\">Slic3r 1.3<\/a><\/noindex> (for 3D printing), <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blender.org\/\">Blender 2.79.b<\/a><\/noindex> and <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freecadweb.org\/\">Freecad 0.18<\/a><\/noindex>;\n<li class=\"l\"> The mathematical package Maxima 5.42.1 has been updated, providing direct integration with Texmacs for creating documents while working in Live mode;\n<li class=\"l\"> Modes have been added for running Knoppix in containers and virtualization systems\u2014\"Knoppix in Knoppix\u2014KVM\", \"Knoppix in Docker\" and \"Knoppix in Chroot\";\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The composition includes programs: video editors kdenlive 18.12.3, openshot 2.4.3, photofilmstrip 3.7.1, obs-studio 22.0.3, multimedia library management system Mediathekview 13.2.1, clients for cloud storage OwnCloud and NextCloud (2.5.1), electronic book collection management system Calibre 3.39.1, game engine Godot3 3.0.6, audio\/video transcoders RipperX 2.8.0, Handbrake 1.2.2, media server gerbera 1.1.0.\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> Full support for UEFI and UEFI Secure Boot;\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The package includes the ADRIANE sound menu, which implements a user environment based on the concept of sound navigation. The Orca system is used for voice reading of page content. Cuneiform serves as the engine for recognizing scanned text.\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"l\"> The ability to automatically increase the user data partition on USB flash without requiring a
