\nProton-i, aimed at porting the current Proton codebase to newer versions of Wine without waiting for significant new releases from Valve. Currently, a version of Proton based on Wine 4.13<\/a><\/noindex>, functionally identical to Proton 4.11-2 (the main Proton project uses Wine 4.11).<\/p>\n

The primary idea behind Proton-i is to enable the use of patches applied to the fresh versions of Wine (each release includes several hundred changes), which can potentially help in running games that previously encountered issues. It is anticipated that some problems may be resolved in new Wine releases, while others can be addressed by Proton patches. The combination of these fixes potentially allows for higher game performance than using new Wine and Proton separately. <\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Proton project developed by Valve is based on the work of the Wine project and aims to enable the launch of gaming applications on Linux that were created for Windows and are available in the Steam catalog. Proton allows the direct launching of gaming applications in the Steam Linux client that are provided only for Windows. The package includes implementations of DirectX 9 (based on D9VK), DirectX 10\/11 (based on DXVK), and 12 (based on vkd3d), which work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API, providing enhanced support for game controllers and the ability to use full-screen mode regardless of the screen resolution supported by the games.
