The FESCo Committee (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), responsible for the technical aspects of the Fedora distribution development, approved<\/a><\/noindex> has announced the cessation of the primary repository formation for the i686 architecture. It should be noted that the consideration of this issue of the proposal<\/a><\/noindex> was initially postponed to investigate the potential negative impact of halting package delivery for i686 on local module builds.<\/p>\n

This decision complements the already implemented solution in the rawhide branch to cease the creation of bootable kernel images for the i686 architecture. The discontinuation of kernel package delivery poses risks for updating already installed systems from the repositories, as users will be forced to rely on outdated kernel packages containing unpatched vulnerabilities.
\nThe formation of multi-lib repositories for x86_64 environments will be maintained, and i686 packages will be preserved within them. <\/p>\n
