Developers of the Linux Mint distribution have published<\/a><\/noindex> monthly newsletter containing information about the latest events and the development progress of the software platform. Currently, the creation of the Linux Mint distribution version 19.3 (the code name has not been announced yet) is underway. The new version will be released by the end of the year and will feature a number of improvements and updated components.<\/p>\n

As stated by the leader of the Linux Mint project, Clement Lefebvre, the new OS release is planned for Christmas. It will enhance support for high-resolution HiDPI displays in the Cinnamon and MATE editions. This will make icons and other elements less blurry.<\/p>\n

Taskbar icons will also be updated in a future build to support HiDPI. Additionally, improvements to the «Language Settings» panel have been promised, allowing users to set the time format according to their locale and region. Although details are still pending.<\/p>\n

The new system will still run on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and be based on the Linux kernel 4.15. Of course, there\u2019s nothing stopping anyone from installing a newer kernel and the latest packages. More details about future changes are discussed in the official developers' blog.<\/p>\n

Overall, the creators of Linux Mint continue to shape the most user-friendly and easy-to-use distribution, allowing novice users to transition to Linux as smoothly as possible. And although it is not without flaws, the distribution remains quite interesting as an alternative to the Windows operating system.<\/p>\n
