Developers of the open-source cloud platform Nextcloud informed<\/a><\/noindex>, which is causing more institutions and companies from the European Union to abandon centralized cloud systems in favor of private cloud storage deployed on their own facilities. Primarily, European organizations are migrating from public cloud systems to comply with GDPR legal requirements and due to legal issues arising from the application of the Cloud Act<\/a><\/noindex>, which defines measures for law enforcement access to users' data in cloud storage owned by American companies, regardless of the location of data centers (most public cloud platforms are supported by American companies). <\/p>\n

Nextcloud allows deploying a full-fledged cloud storage system within the network with support for synchronization and data sharing, as well as offering accompanying features such as tools for collaborative document editing, video conferencing, messaging, and, starting from the current release, integration of features for creating a decentralized social network. The Ministry of the Interior of France, the Federal Government of Germany, the Ministry of Education of the Netherlands, and government agencies in Sweden are currently implementing their own cloud systems based on Nextcloud. <\/p>\n

The French Ministry of the Interior is in the process of implementing a Nextcloud-based solution that can scale up to 300,000 users and be used for secure file sharing and collaborative document editing. In the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Nextcloud platform is utilized for creating a messaging and file storage system with end-to-end encryption. In the German government, an environment for collaboration and data sharing is being established based on Nextcloud.<\/p>\n
