Alexander Larsson, the Flatpak developer and an active member of the GNOME community, announced<\/a><\/noindex> the second release of the project Gthree<\/a><\/noindex>, is developing a port of the 3D library three.js<\/a><\/noindex> for GObject and GTK, which can be used in practice to add 3D effects to GNOME applications. The Gthree API is almost identical to three.js, including an implemented loader glTF<\/a><\/noindex> (GL Transmission Format) and the ability to use PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials in models. Rendering supports only OpenGL.<\/p>\n

The new version adds support for the class Raycaster<\/a><\/noindex> with the implementation of the eponymous rendering method<\/a><\/noindex>, which can be used to determine which objects in 3D space the mouse is hovering over (for example, to capture 3D objects from the scene with the mouse). Additionally, a new type of point light (GthreeSpotLight) has been added, and support for shadow maps has been provided, allowing objects placed in front of the light source to cast shadows on the target object.<\/p>\n
