In the Avast company blog has been published<\/a><\/noindex> The study results of the permissions requested by the applications listed in the Google Play catalog for flashlight implementations on the Android platform. A total of 937 flashlights were found in the catalog, of which seven exhibited elements of malicious or undesirable activity, while the rest can be considered 'clean'. 408 applications requested 10 or fewer permissions, while 262 applications required consent for 50 or more permissions. <\/p>\n

Analysis of the permissions requested by applications claiming flashlight functionality (not as an additional feature, but as applications primarily positioning themselves solely as flashlights) revealed that 77 applications request audio recording functions, 180 require access to read contacts, 21\u2014permission to write to contacts, 180\u2014ability to make calls, 131\u2014access to precise location, 63\u2014answer calls, 92\u2014make calls, 82\u2014receive SMS, 24\u2014upload data without notification. <\/p>\n

282 programs require access to the force stop background processes function (this feature is assumed to be used to terminate processes to reduce power consumption). In fact, to operate the flashlight, only access to the camera flash LED is needed, and optionally the ability to prevent the device from going into sleep mode.<\/p>\n

As an example, a typical flashlight application was analyzed, which claims only flashlight functionality and states that the application does not require additional permissions.
