The upcoming release and current beta versions of the Linux kernel 5.4 a new feature has emerged<\/a><\/noindex> support a driver for the Microsoft exFAT file system. However, this driver is based on old Samsung code (version branch number 1.2.9). In its own smartphones, the company is already using a variant of the driver called sdFAT based on branch 2.2.0. <\/p>\n

Now, was published<\/a><\/noindex> Information that the South Korean developer Park Ju Hyung has introduced a new version of the exFAT driver, based on the latest developments from the company. Changes in the code relate not only to updates in functionality, but also to the removal of modifications specific to Samsung. This has made the driver suitable for all Linux kernels, not just Samsung Android firmware.<\/p>\n

The code is already available in the PPA repository for Ubuntu, and for other distributions, it can be built from the source. Linux kernels supported range from 3.4 to 5.3-rc on all current platforms. The list includes x86 (i386), x86_64 (amd64), ARM32 (AArch32), and ARM64 (AArch64). The developer has already suggested adding the driver to the main branch to replace the old version.<\/p>\n

It is also noted that the driver works faster than the Microsoft version. Thus, an updated exFAT driver can be expected, although there is currently no exact information on the timeline for incorporating the development into the main branch.<\/p>\n

Recall that exFAT is a proprietary version of the file system that first appeared in Windows Embedded CE 6.0. The system is designed for flash drives. <\/p>\n
