A few weeks ago, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/community.checkpoint.com\/t5\/General-Topics\/R80-40-Early-Availability-Program-Check-Point-Update\/m-p\/61754\">the Early Access program started,<\/a><\/noindex>, which provides access for testing the distribution. As usual, we will publish information about what\u2019s new and highlight the points that are most interesting from our perspective. To give you a preview, I can say that the innovations are indeed significant. Therefore, it is worth preparing for the upcoming update process. Earlier, we already <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/habr.com\/ru\/company\/tssolution\/blog\/353470\/\">published an article<\/a><\/noindex> on how to do this (for additional information, you can <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/cpsupport.ru\/obnovlenie\">refer here<\/a><\/noindex>). Let's move on to the topic\u2026<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"habracut\"><\/a><\/noindex><\/p>\n<h3>What\u2019s New<\/h3>\n<p>We will consider the officially announced innovations here. The information is taken from the site <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/community.checkpoint.com\/\">Check Mates<\/a><\/noindex> (official Check Point community). With your permission, I will not translate this text, as the audience of Habr allows it. Instead, I will leave my comments in the next chapter.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">1. IoT Security. New features related to the Internet of Things.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collect IoT devices and traffic attributes from certified IoT discovery engines (currently supports Medigate, CyberMDX, Cynerio, Claroty, Indegy, SAM, and Armis).<\/li>\n<li>Configure a new IoT dedicated Policy Layer in policy management.<\/li>\n<li>Configure and manage security rules based on the attributes of IoT devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">2. TLS Inspection<\/b><b>HTTP\/2:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HTTP\/2 is an update to the HTTP protocol. The update provides improvements in speed, efficiency, and security, resulting in a better user experience.<\/li>\n<li>Check Point's Security Gateway now supports HTTP\/2, providing better speed and efficiency while ensuring full security, including all Threat Prevention and Access Control blades, as well as new protections for the HTTP\/2 protocol.<\/li>\n<li>Support is for both clear and SSL encrypted traffic and is fully integrated with HTTPS\/TLS<\/li>\n<li>Inspection capabilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>TLS Inspection Layer<\/b>. Innovations regarding HTTPS inspection:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new Policy Layer in SmartConsole dedicated to TLS Inspection.<\/li>\n<li>Different TLS Inspection layers can be used in different policy packages.<\/li>\n<li>Sharing of a TLS Inspection layer across multiple policy packages.<\/li>\n<li>API for TLS operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">3. Threat Prevention<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overall efficiency enhancement for Threat Prevention processes and updates.<\/li>\n<li>Automatic updates to the Threat Extraction Engine.<\/li>\n<li>Dynamic, Domain, and Updatable Objects can now be used in Threat Prevention and TLS Inspection policies. Updatable objects are network objects that represent an external service or a known dynamic list of IP addresses, for example \u2014 Office365 \/ Google \/ Azure \/ AWS IP addresses and Geo objects.<\/li>\n<li>Anti-Virus now uses SHA-1 and SHA-256 threat indications to block files based on their hashes. Import the new indicators from the SmartConsole Threat Indicators view or the Custom Intelligence Feed CLI.<\/li>\n<li>Anti-Virus and SandBlast Threat Emulation now support inspection of e-mail traffic over the POP3 protocol, as well as improved inspection of e-mail traffic over the IMAP protocol.<\/li>\n<li>Anti-Virus and SandBlast Threat Emulation now use the newly introduced SSH inspection feature to inspect files transferred over the SCP and SFTP protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Anti-Virus and SandBlast Threat Emulation now provide enhanced support for SMBv3 inspection (3.0, 3.0.2, 3.1.1), including the inspection of multi-channel connections. Check Point is now the only vendor to support the inspection of file transfers through multiple channels, a feature that is enabled by default in all Windows environments. This allows customers to remain secure while utilizing this performance-enhancing feature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">4. Identity Awareness<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for Captive Portal integration with SAML 2.0 and third-party Identity Providers.<\/li>\n<li>Support for Identity Broker for scalable and granular sharing of identity information between PDPs, as well as cross-domain sharing.<\/li>\n<li>Enhancements to Terminal Servers Agent for improved scaling and compatibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">5. IPsec VPN<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Configure different VPN encryption domains on a Security Gateway that is a member of multiple VPN communities. This provides:<\/li>\n<li>Improved privacy \u2014 Internal networks are not disclosed in IKE protocol negotiations.<\/li>\n<li>Improved security and granularity \u2014 Specify which networks are accessible in a specified VPN community.<\/li>\n<li>Improved interoperability \u2014 Simplified route-based VPN definitions (recommended when working with an empty VPN encryption domain).<\/li>\n<li>Create and seamlessly operate within a Large Scale VPN (LSV) environment with the help of LSV profiles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">6. URL Filtering<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved scalability and resilience.<\/li>\n<li>Extended troubleshooting capabilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">7. NAT<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhanced NAT port allocation mechanism \u2014 on Security Gateways with 6 or more CoreXL Firewall instances, all instances use the same pool of NAT ports, optimizing port utilization and reuse.<\/li>\n<li>NAT port utilization monitoring in CPView and via SNMP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">8. Voice over IP (VoIP)<\/b>Multiple CoreXL Firewall instances handle the SIP protocol to enhance performance.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">9. Remote Access VPN<\/b>Utilize machine certificates to distinguish between corporate and non-corporate assets, enforcing policy to allow only corporate assets. Enforcement can be applied pre-logon (device authentication only) or post-logon (device and user authentication).<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">10. Mobile Access Portal Agent<\/b>Enhanced Endpoint Security on Demand within the Mobile Access Portal Agent to support all major web browsers. For more information, see sk113410.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">11. CoreXL and Multi-Queue<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for the automatic allocation of CoreXL SNDs and Firewall instances that does not require rebooting the Security Gateway.<\/li>\n<li>Improved out-of-the-box experience \u2014 The Security Gateway automatically adjusts the number of CoreXL SNDs and Firewall instances and the Multi-Queue configuration based on current traffic load.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">12. Clustering<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for Cluster Control Protocol in Unicast mode that removes the necessity for CCP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Broadcast or Multicast modes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cluster Control Protocol encryption is now enabled by default.<\/li>\n<li>New ClusterXL mode - Active\/Active, which supports Cluster Members in different geographic locations on varying subnets with different IP addresses.<\/li>\n<li>Support for ClusterXL Cluster Members running different software versions.<\/li>\n<li>Removed the need for MAC Magic configuration when several clusters are connected to the same subnet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">13. VSX<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for VSX upgrade with CPUSE in Gaia Portal.<\/li>\n<li>Support for Active Up mode in VSLS.<\/li>\n<li>Support for CPView statistical reports for each Virtual System.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">14. Zero Touch<\/b>A simple Plug &amp; Play setup process for installing an appliance \u2014 eliminating the need for technical expertise and the requirement to connect to the appliance for initial configuration.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">15. Gaia REST API<\/b>Gaia REST API provides a new method to read and send information to servers running the Gaia Operating System. See sk143612.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">16. Advanced Routing<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhancements to OSPF and BGP allow resetting and restarting OSPF neighboring for each CoreXL Firewall instance without restarting the routed daemon.<\/li>\n<li>Improved route refresh for better handling of BGP routing inconsistencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">17. Deployment<\/b>Central Deployment of Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator and Hotfixes from SmartConsole or with an API allows to install or upgrade multiple Security Gateways and Clusters in parallel.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">22. SmartEvent<\/b>Share SmartView views and reports with other administrators.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">23. Log Exporter<\/b>Export logs filtered according to field values.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"spoiler_title\">24. Endpoint Security<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for BitLocker encryption for Full Disk Encryption.<\/li>\n<li>Support for external Certificate Authority certificates for Endpoint Security client authentication and communication with the Endpoint Security Management Server.<\/li>\n<li>Support for dynamic size of Endpoint Security Client packages based on the selected features for deployment.<\/li>\n<li>Policy can now control level of notifications to end users.<\/li>\n<li>Support for Persistent VDI environment in Endpoint Policy Management.<\/li>\n<li>What we liked the most (based on client tasks)<\/li>\n<li>As you can see, there are many innovations. But for us, as a system integrator,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>, there are several quite interesting points (which are also of interest to our clients). Our Top 10:<\/h3>\n<p>Finally, there is full support for IoT devices. It is now quite difficult to find a company that does not have such devices. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/tssolution.ru\/\">TLS inspection has now been moved to a separate layer. This is much more convenient than it is now (in 80.30). No longer need to run the old Legacy Dashboard. Plus, now in the HTTPS inspection policy, Updatable objects can be used, such as Office365, Google, Azure, AWS services, etc. This is very convenient when needing to set exceptions. However, there is still no support for TLS 1.3. Apparently, they will catch up in the next hotfix.<\/a><\/noindex>Significant changes for Anti-Virus and SandBlast. It is now possible to configure multiple VPN domains on a gateway that belongs to several VPN communities. This is very convenient and much safer. Moreover, Check Point has finally remembered about Route Based VPN and slightly improved its stability\/compatibility.<\/li>\n<li>A highly demanded feature for remote users has been introduced. It is now possible to authenticate not only the user but also the device they are connecting from. For example, we want to allow VPN connections only from corporate devices. This is done using certificates, of course. Additionally, automatic mounting of SMB v2\/3 file shares for remote users with a VPN client has become possible.<\/li>\n<li>There are many changes in the cluster operation. One of the most interesting is the ability to operate a cluster where gateways have different versions of Gaia. This is convenient for planned upgrades.<\/li>\n<li>Zero Touch capabilities have been improved. This is a useful feature for those who often install 'small' gateways (for example, for ATMs).<\/li>\n<li>Logs now support storage up to 48TB.<\/li>\n<li>You can share your SmartEvent dashboards with other administrators.<\/li>\n<li>Log Exporter now allows pre-filtering of sent messages based on required fields. That is, only the necessary logs and events will be sent to your SIEM systems.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Upgrade<\/h3>\n<p>Many may already be considering an upgrade. However, there is no need to rush. First, version 80.40 should transition to General Availability. Even after that, it's best not to upgrade immediately. It\u2019s advisable to wait for at least the first hotfix.<br \/>\nMany might still be on older versions. I can say that at least it's time (and even necessary) to upgrade to 80.30.
