Oracle Corporation introduced<\/a><\/noindex> new product Autonomous Linux<\/a><\/noindex>, which serves as an enhancement to Oracle Linux<\/a><\/noindex>, with the key feature of operating in autonomous mode, eliminating the need for manual maintenance and administrator involvement. The product is offered as a free option for Oracle Cloud users who subscribe to the Linux Premier Support program.<\/p>\n

Autonomous Linux enables automatic execution of tasks such as delivery of updates (provisioning), application of patches, and optimization of settings (through profile switching). In combination with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services, such as Oracle OS Management Service, the product also implements automation tools for deployment, lifecycle management of virtual environments, and scaling when resources are insufficient. Currently, Autonomous Linux is available only in Oracle Cloud, with a standalone version planned for it is anticipated<\/a><\/noindex> later.<\/p>\n

A user or system administrator simply needs to press a button to install Autonomous Linux on a virtual machine or a real server, after which the system will be kept up-to-date automatically without the need for downtime planning for scheduled updates. It is expected that when used in cloud environments, Autonomous Linux will reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) by 30-50%.<\/p>\n

Based on the standard Oracle Linux distribution, Autonomous Linux utilizes technology Ksplice<\/a><\/noindex>, allowing patches to be applied to the Linux kernel without rebooting. Full binary compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux is ensured. The product continues the development of Oracle Autonomous database concepts, which do not require maintenance to stay current. Until now, the bottleneck in Oracle Autonomous has been the operating system, which required administrator support. With the introduction of Autonomous Linux, users have the ability to deploy complete self-updating configurations that require no oversight. <\/p>\n
