One of our teams at the semifinal in Novosibirsk had to learn the principles of mobile development from scratch to complete their hackathon task. When we asked them, 'How do you feel about this challenge?', they shared that the hardest part was fitting into five minutes of presentation time and a few slides what they had worked on for 36 hours. <\/p>\n

Publicly defending your project is tough. Even tougher is saying little and getting to the point. The true skill is to hold back and not include everything you think about it in your presentation. How to Arrange Slides<\/h2>\n

Remember how your grandmother used to say: you are judged by your appearance (maybe my grandmother was the only one who said that). A presentation is your appearance, meaning the overall vision of your project. Nearly 80% of hackathon participants postpone preparing it until the last moment and then rush to complete it just in time for the final checkpoint. As a result, the slides become a graveyard of memes, images, jumping text, and chunks of code. This is not the right approach. Always keep in mind that your presentation is the blueprint of your pitch, so it should be structured correctly and logically. <\/p>\n

The winner of the Moscow hackathon, 'Team Named After Sakharov', recommends allocating about three hours for the presentation and rehearsal of the speech. <\/p>\n

Roman Weinberg, team captain: \"Each hackathon is unique in its own way, and the path to victory is different as well. One of the key factors is choosing the right track, which is personal for everyone. Before the presentation, you must utilize every opportunity to explain the project's essence and demonstrate the results to those who will evaluate you. Communication typically occurs in three stages: you brainstorm ideas and discuss their pros and cons with experts, which results in the first concept; then you continue working and fine-tune the benefits, monetization, and code, showing the experts something functional\u2014demonstrating that you can deliver what you promise. The final stage before the presentation is to showcase the final outcome of your work. This is important because now the jury knows your project better and sees the work you've done, which helps them evaluate you. In the presentation, it's essential to maintain a balance between capturing the audience's attention (you need to excite them) and conveying the project's essence (without missing important details). As real hackathon enthusiasts say\u2014any project can be explained in three sentences, so five minutes are strict but necessary time limits accepted worldwide.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It's great if your team has a designer\u2014they will create the design, help align all elements, visually structure the team's ideas, and maintain the right ratio of memes to slides. <\/p>\n

A special note about memes. Everyone loves jokes about Elon Musk, digital transformation, and funny images. It's appropriate to insert them somewhere at the beginning of your presentation to play on the problem your product solves or to introduce the team.
