According to the developers, this new version includes many improvements and features, making it even lighter and more functional.<\/p>\n<p><b>Release highlights:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> System settings have gained new features that allow for Thunderbolt hardware management, a 'night' mode has been added, and many pages have been redesigned to simplify configuration.<\/li>\n<li> Notifications have been improved, and a new do-not-disturb mode has been added for presentations.<\/li>\n<li> The Breeze GTK theme for Chrome\/Chromium browsers has been enhanced.<\/li>\n<li> The KWin window manager has received many improvements, including those related to HiDPI and multi-screen support, as well as fractional scaling support for Wayland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The full release of version 5.17 will take place in mid-October.<\/p>\n<p><i>The release of Plasma 5.17 is dedicated to one of the KDE developers, Guillermo Amaral. Guillermo was a passionate KDE developer, describing himself as an 'incredibly beautiful self-taught multidisciplinary engineer.' Last summer he lost his battle with cancer, but everyone who worked with him will remember him as a good friend and a talented developer.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><u>More details about the new features:<\/u><\/b><br \/><b><i>Plasma:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> The 'Do Not Disturb' mode automatically activates when 'screen mirroring' occurs (for example, during a presentation).<\/li>\n<li> The notification widget now uses an improved icon instead of displaying the number of unread notifications.<\/li>\n<li> UX widget positioning has been enhanced, especially for touch screens.<\/li>\n<li> The behavior of middle mouse button clicks in the 'Task Manager' has been improved: clicking on a thumbnail closes the process, while clicking on the task itself launches a new instance.<\/li>\n<li> Light RGB hinting is now the default font rendering mode.<\/li>\n<li> Plasma now starts faster (according to the developers).<\/li>\n<li> Conversion of fractional units to others in Krunner and Kickoff (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/kde.org\/announcements\/plasma-5.17\/inches-to-cm.png\">Image<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li> The slideshow in the desktop wallpaper been added (using Libinput).<\/li>\n<li> Now, custom fonts, color settings, and themes can be applied for SDDM, so the login screen can match the overall desktop environment styling.<\/li>\n<li> A new 'Sleep for a few hours and then hibernate' function has been added.<\/li>\n<li> You can now set a global keyboard shortcut to turn off the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><i>System monitor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/noindex><noindex><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> The ability to view network usage statistics for each process has been added.<\/li>\n<li> The ability to view NVidia GPU statistics has been added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><i>KWin:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Fractional scaling has been added for Wayland.<\/li>\n<li> Improved support for high resolution HiDPI and
