Supporters of the initiative believe that users should have complete control over their devices, from cars and medical devices to phones and computers. <\/p>\n<p>This year, the event organizers aim to raise public awareness about the issues associated with DRM in electronic textbooks and courses. When purchasing e-textbooks, students encounter restrictions that prevent full access to course materials, require a constant internet connection for authentication, limit the number of pages that can be viewed at one time, and secretly collect telemetry data about their activity during the course. <\/p>\n<p>The observance of the anti-DRM day is coordinated on the website <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defectivebydesign.org\">Defective by Design<\/a><\/noindex>, which also includes examples of the negative impact of DRM in various fields. For instance, it references the 2009 incident where thousands of copies of George Orwell's book '1984' were deleted from Kindle devices, initiated by Amazon.
