Zabbix consists of three basic components: a server for coordinating the execution of checks, forming verification requests, and accumulating statistics; agents for performing checks on external hosts; and a frontend for managing the system.<\/p>\n<p>To relieve load from the central server and form a distributed monitoring network, a series of proxy servers can be deployed, aggregating check data from a group of hosts. The data can be stored in MySQL, PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, DB2, and Oracle databases. Without agents, the Zabbix server can receive data via protocols such as SNMP, IPMI, JMX, SSH\/Telnet, and ODBC, conduct web application availability tests, and virtualization systems.<\/p>\n<p><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zabbix.com\/whats_new_4_4\">Key<\/a><\/noindex> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zabbix.com\/documentation\/4.4\/manual\/introduction\/whatsnew440\">innovations<\/a><\/noindex>:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> A new type of agent has been introduced \u2014 zabbix_agent2, written in Go and providing a framework for developing plugins to monitor various services and applications. The new agent includes a built-in scheduler with support for flexible check execution schedules and can track state between checks (for example, maintaining an open connection to the database). To save bandwidth, it supports sending collected data in batch mode. The new agent can be used for seamless replacement of the old agent, currently only on the Linux platform.\n<li class=\"l\"> Added the ability to use <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zabbix.com\/documentation\/4.4\/manual\/config\/notifications\/media\/webhook\">webhooks<\/a><\/noindex> and its own action and notification handlers for detecting failures in monitored services. Handlers can be created in JavaScript and applied to call external notification delivery services or error tracking systems. For example, a handler can be written to send messages about issues to a corporate chat;\n<li class=\"l\"> Official support for databases <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50063\">TimescaleDB<\/a><\/noindex> as a data storage for checks. Unlike previously supported<br \/>\nMySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and DB2, TimescaleDB is specifically optimized for storing and processing data in the form of time series (slices of parameter values at specified intervals, where the record forms time and a set of corresponding values). TimescaleDB significantly <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.zabbix.com\/zabbix-time-series-data-and-timescaledb\/6642\/\">improves efficiency and performance<\/a><\/noindex> When working with such data, demonstrating a practically linear level of performance. Additionally, TimescaleDB supports features such as automatic cleanup of old records;<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.zabbix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/TimescaleDB_vs_Postgres_Chart_new-1024x611.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of Monitoring System Zabbix 4.4\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ad4b3d51c1daaeba19db22bb6bffdf0d.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zabbix.com\/documentation\/guidelines\/templates\">Prepared<\/a><\/noindex> Specifications for template formatting to standardize settings. The structure of the XML\/JSON files is adapted for manual editing of the template in a standard text editor. Existing templates have been aligned with the proposed specifications;\n<li class=\"l\"> A knowledge base has been implemented for documenting monitored elements and triggers, which can be equipped with detailed descriptions, explanations of the data collection goals, and instructions for action in case of issues;\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/assets.zabbix.com\/img\/4.4\/data_items_description_dark.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Release of Monitoring System Zabbix 4.4\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/c63ba2a6f15db9b41b7e5d60e365f782.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> Enhanced visualization capabilities of the infrastructure state have been presented. Added the ability to change widget parameters with one click. Chart sets are optimized for display on widescreen monitors and large wall panels. All widgets are adapted for display in a headerless mode. A new widget for displaying prototypes of charts has been added.
