One of the features of Samsung smartphones and tablets is the Linux on DeX application. It allows you to run a full Linux OS on mobile devices when connected to a larger screen. By the end of 2018, the program could already run Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. However, it seems that this is where it will end.<\/p>\n

Samsung has announced<\/a><\/noindex> about the discontinuation of Linux on DeX, although it did not specify the reasons. Reportedly, beta versions of Android 10 for branded smartphones are already lacking support for this software, while there will be no changes in the release versions.<\/p>\n

It is clear that the reason was the low popularity of such a solution. Unfortunately, this is indeed the case, as there are many alternatives available on Android, making the use of Linux on mobile devices hardly justified.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Samsung was seen as the main hope for popularizing Linux on mobile devices. After the failure of Ubuntu Touch, this collaboration was considered the most promising. <\/p>\n

At this moment, the company has not commented on the situation, so the only thing known is the fact of discontinuation of support. Perhaps in the future Samsung will hand over the code to the community and allow the application to be developed independently.<\/p>\n
