Good day everyone! I would like to create a kind of article \u2014 a discussion. I\u2019m not sure if it will fit the format of the site, but I think many will find it interesting and useful to find answers to many questions. I couldn\u2019t find a reliable answer to the following question online (I probably didn\u2019t search well enough).

\n The question is: \u201cWhat to store archival data on? What will last the longest and be enough for my lifetime to pass on to my children and grandchildren?\u201d.
\n The conversation will not be about classified intelligence data or storing adult content; we will talk about everyday matters: \u201cStoring family photos and videos.\u201d<\/a><\/noindex>
\n Let me start by saying that I encountered the fact that the CDs we received as gifts in school were opened after 10 years. And, as many guessed, only one out of 20 was accessible\u2026 and it was damaged. Why? Elementary\u2026 It deteriorated! THEY deteriorated\u2026
\n I always believed that storing information on electronic media was the best way, the most compact, the most reliable! Not at all! Magnetic layers demagnetize, electronic components discharge, the thin reflective layers on compact discs change their composition, color, and simply delaminate over time. As a result: information gets \u201cdamaged,\u201d and since we live in a digital, not an analog age, we lose not a fragment, but practically the entire block. Of course, many will argue that there are methods to recover corrupt or partially lost data. Something is \u201credrawn,\u201d something is read multiple times to catch residual magnetic vibrations, but that\u2019s all not serious!
\n An ordinary consumer just wants to: 1.Buy 2.Write 3.Open it many years later and not be disappointed.
\n What can anyone recommend?
\n The internet offers the following advice:
\n 1.Write on high-quality BD discs in a single pass, read data as infrequently as possible, and essentially hide the disc in an inaccessible place!
\n 2.High-quality SSDs<\/a>, not very high capacity, with a backup power source during storage.
\n 3.Increase backups and use cloud services
\n 4.LTO media. Not very popular, expensive, but more durable than many others.
\n 5.Perf tapes XD well, that\u2019s just a little extra from me)))<\/p>\n

I am waiting for reasonable suggestions! The question is simple, but the situation is complex...
