The company Group-IB, operating in the field of information security, announced that the shutdown of one of the largest pirate video content providers, Moonwalk CDN (Content Delivery Network), has led to the liquidation of two other CDN providers. These are the CDN providers HDGO and Kodik, which were also major suppliers of pirate video content for Russia and the CIS countries.<\/p>\n

According to experts from Group-IB, the dismantling of the \"Big Three pirate CDNs\" has seriously impacted 90% of Russian web resources that engage in the streaming of pirated video content. The company also notes that new players may emerge to replace the closed CDN providers in the near future.<\/p>\n

Experts from Group-IB first reported on the operations of the largest pirate CDN provider, Moonwalk, in February of this year. At its peak, Moonwalk was aggregating 42,807 films and series, offering other pirates an easy service that automated the placement of video content on pages of pirate websites. It's worth mentioning that the infrastructure needed for the CDN provider was valued at $100,000, while the pirates' revenue could be counted in millions of dollars.<\/p>\n

This month, the joint efforts of several anti-piracy organizations led to the closure of CDN Moonwalk. This caused content delivery issues for two other large pirate CDNs, which shared resources with Moonwalk, located in the Netherlands. servers<\/a>, located in the Netherlands. Almost immediately after the closure of Moonwalk, Kodik lost most of its content: out of 17,000 films and series, about 8,000 remained. By the time of its shutdown, HDGO had over 25,000 films and series in its CDN provider database. Ultimately, HDGO closed on October 18, and Kodik ceased to exist on October 23.<\/p>\n

Experts from Group-IB believe that the shutdown of Moonwalk, HDGO, and Kodik will deliver a serious blow to 90% of Russia's pirate online cinemas. Primarily, the \"Big Three pirate CDNs\" targeted audiences from Russia and the CIS. Moonwalk had plans to enter the pirate market in Brazil. By the time of its closure, the CDN provider had around 2,000 films in Portuguese.<\/p>\n
