{"id":39427,"date":"2019-10-31T22:32:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T19:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/blog\/10-uyazvimostej-v-gipervizore-xen\/"},"modified":"2019-10-31T22:32:37","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T19:32:37","slug":"10-uyazvimostej-v-gipervizore-xen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/en\/blog\/news\/10-uyazvimostej-v-gipervizore-xen","title":{"rendered":"10 vulnerabilities in the Xen hypervisor","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"<p><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/\">Published<\/a><\/noindex> information about 10 vulnerabilities in the Xen hypervisor, of which five (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/6\">CVE-2019-17341<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/2\">CVE-2019-17342<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/1\">CVE-2019-17340<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/5\">CVE-2019-17346<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/10\">CVE-2019-17343<\/a><\/noindex>) potentially allow breaking out of the current guest environment and escalating privileges, one vulnerability (CVE-2019-17347) allows an unprivileged process to take control over processes of other users in the same guest system, the remaining four (CVE-2019-17344, CVE-2019-17345, CVE-2019-17348, CVE-2019-17351) vulnerabilities can lead to denial of service (crash of the host environment). Issues have been fixed in releases <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/xenproject.org\/downloads\/\">Xen 4.12.1, 4.11.2, and 4.10.4<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/6\">CVE-2019-17341<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 the ability for an attacker-controlled guest system to gain hypervisor-level access. This issue only manifests on x86 systems and can be executed from guest systems operating in paravirtualization (PV) mode when introducing a new PCI device into a running guest system. The vulnerability does not manifest in guest systems operating in HVM and PVH modes;\n<li class=\"l\">  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/1\">CVE-2019-17340<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 memory leak potentially allowing privilege escalation or access to data from other guest systems.<br \/>\nThe issue manifests only on hosts with more than 16 TB of RAM in 64-bit systems and 168 GB in 32-bit.<br \/>\nThe vulnerability can only be exploited from guest systems in PV mode (it does not manifest in HVM and PVH modes when using libxl);<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/5\">CVE-2019-17346<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 a vulnerability when using PCID (Process Context Identifiers) to enhance protection performance against attacks<br \/>\nMeltdown allows access to data from other guest systems and potentially escalates privileges. The vulnerability can only be exploited from guest systems in PV mode on x86 systems (the issue does not manifest in HVM and PVH modes, as well as in configurations that lack guest systems with PCID enabled (PCID is enabled by default));<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/2\">CVE-2019-17342<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 a problem in the implementation of the XENMEM_exchange hypercall allows for privilege escalation in environments with only one guest system. The vulnerability can only be exploited from guest systems in PV mode (the vulnerability does not manifest in HVM and PVH modes);\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openwall.com\/lists\/oss-security\/2019\/10\/25\/10\">CVE-2019-17343<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 improper mapping in IOMMU enables, when having access from a guest system to a physical device, the use of DMA to modify its own memory page table and gain host-level access. This vulnerability only manifests in guest systems operating in PV mode when there are rights for PCI device passthrough.\n<\/ul>\n<p><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\"
