Lukas Schauer, developer dehydrated<\/a><\/noindex>, a bash script for automating the acquisition of SSL certificates through the service Let's Encrypt<\/a><\/noindex>, accepted the offer<\/a><\/noindex> to sell the project and fund its further development. The new owner of the project is the Austrian company Apilayer GmbH<\/a><\/noindex>. The project has been moved to a new address github.com\/dehydrated-io\/dehydrated<\/a><\/noindex>. The license remains the same (MIT). <\/p>\n

The completed transaction will help ensure further development and maintenance of the project \u2014 Lucas is a student and after finishing his studies, it is unclear whether he will have time for the project. The purchase of dehydrated is explained by the desire of the company Apilayer to contribute to supporting open projects and maintaining a positive reputation for its brand (the company wants to demonstrate that it not only consumes open source software in its cloud service but also supports its development). <\/p>\n

Lukas remains the maintainer and will retain all control and management over the development. Moreover, Lukas will now be able to devote more time to the development of dehydrated, which in recent months has mostly been limited to maintenance. Among the immediate plans is the implementation of a new system for testing code that will ensure the absence of regressions and breaking changes with older systems, as well as track compliance with the standard ACME<\/a><\/noindex> (RFC-8555<\/a><\/noindex>). Furthermore, Lukas intends to focus on improving the documentation.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s remind you that using dehydrated is one of the simplest ways to organize the process of obtaining and renewing certificates through Let\u2019s Encrypt \u2014 it is enough to specify the necessary domains in the configuration file and create a directory. WELLKNOWN<\/a><\/noindex> in the web server tree, and write the script in crontab, with all other actions being performed automatically, without the need for manual user intervention. The script requires bash, openssl, curl, sed, grep, awk, and mktemp, which are typically included in the base set of distributions.<\/p>\n
