The automotive industry has been under significant pressure from the authorities of many developed countries over the last decade: policymakers are demanding a reduction in harmful emissions, a move away from diesel engines, and are actively supporting the production of electric vehicles. Manufacturers are increasingly switching to small turbocharged engines, which, along with programmed obsolescence, negatively impacts the reliability of modern cars. Nowadays, it's rare for a car to cover 200,000\u2013300,000 kilometers without serious breakdowns, and engines that could reach a million kilometers have long since become a thing of the past. <\/p>\n

This trend has not escaped the creators of off-road vehicles. More and more \"off-roaders\" are replacing frames with unibody construction and the good old V8 engine with a 2-liter turbo engine. However, fans of classic off-road frame vehicles can still find such cars on our market, including in the premium segment. One of the last Mohicans is the Lexus GX 460, which recently underwent a refresh. We drove the updated SUV on the roads of France\u2014and now we're ready to share how the updated vehicle turned out.<\/p>\n

\u2193<\/a><\/noindex>#<\/a><\/noindex>Exterior<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The main exterior change is immediately noticeable: it is the new grille, which has become larger and now has a mesh structure\u2014instead of chrome stripes as before. The shape of the headlights has also changed: the new LED optics with daytime running lights in the shape of the Lexus logo look noticeably fresher. As a result, the SUV's appearance has significantly transformed, gaining in impact and aggression. <\/p>\n

Inside, there are not many changes: the materials have been improved, a new steering wheel has appeared, and the shape of the gear lever has changed. The list of options has been updated with new high-tech solutions, among which are four cameras around the vehicle with a system for off-road driving assistance (Multi-Terrain Monitor). The vehicle now comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+, which includes an automatic braking system before obstacles, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and a road sign recognition system. <\/p>\n

Interestingly, after the update, the initial configurations of the Lexus GX 460 not only did not become more expensive but even became slightly more affordable. For example, the SUV in the base Executive 5 configuration is priced at 4.565 million rubles. However, even the basic GX is quite well-equipped: full LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof, illuminated side steps, electric steering adjustment for tilt and reach, heated steering wheel, windshield, mirrors, and front seats, ventilation for front seats, leather upholstery, keyless entry system, adaptive adjustable suspension, rear pneumatic suspension, navigation system, vehicle stability control system, and inter-axle differential lock. In the maximum Premium Sport configuration, the 460 is priced at 5.061 million rubles. <\/p>\n

The purchase price, regardless of the configuration, already includes three years of the \"Roadside Assistance\" service, three years of warranty on the vehicle, and three scheduled maintenance services (at 10, 20, and 30 thousand kilometers) as part of the \"Package Maintenance\" program. <\/p>\n

As with Lexus RX<\/a><\/noindex>, the updated GX was tested on the roads of France. The GX 460 is a rare sight on European roads; its true element lies in countries with less-than-ideal road conditions. However, even in resort Marseille, the organizers of the test drive managed to find several kilometers of roads reminiscent of typical rural Russia. <\/p>\n

On bumpy roads, the Lexus GX can speed along even faster than city speed limits allow. It seems that the worse the road surface becomes, the better the adaptive suspension of the 460 handles it. You simply press the gas \u2014 and the SUV moves forward with the confidence of a tank. In terms of comfort on poor roads, the GX 460 is one of the best vehicles not only in its class but overall. <\/p>\n

On the highway, the 2.5-ton vehicle doesn\u2019t lag behind either. The powerful V8 confidently accelerates the SUV to the maximum allowed speed of 130 km\/h. It reaches the first hundred in just 8.3 seconds \u2014 a result that many business-class sedans cannot boast of. The thing is, the very nature of the 460 doesn\u2019t lend itself to dynamic driving. With active accelerations and \u2014 especially \u2014 braking, noticeable roll occurs, despite the efforts of the system. KDSS<\/a><\/noindex>. It's much more pleasant to gradually reach the speed limit, activate the intelligent cruise control, and enjoy significantly lower fuel consumption as a bonus. <\/p>\n

The off-road segments were easily navigated by the GX 460, which is no surprise. After all, it is one of the best 'off-roaders' in the premium segment: a frame design, high ground clearance, center differential lock, Multi Terrain Select system, pneumatic suspension, and a powerful engine \u2014 all these features allow for confident driving, even on serious rough terrain. <\/p>\n

It's clear that the GX 460, unlike the Lexus RX, is not for everyone. Its target audience is men aged 45 and older, who often have to travel on poor roads. High reliability, excellent off-road capability, and a classic cabin layout with large controls \u2014 these features make wealthy buyers willing to shell out 4.5 million rubles. Add to this the high liquidity of Lexus SUVs \u2014 it will undoubtedly find its buyers. High fuel consumption, roll, average handling, and an interior that falls short of German competitors \u2014 all of this is something loyal 'Lexus' owners are ready to forgive their favorite vehicle. <\/p>\n

The selection of large frame SUVs in the Russian market is not that vast. With the same 5 million, you can consider the main bestseller in this class: the Toyota Land Cruiser 200. The base version of the 'two-hundred' will, of course, be less luxurious than the Lexus. However, you will get a more spacious vehicle with a diesel (gasoline is also available) engine producing 249 hp, which will consume noticeably less fuel. <\/p>\n

The Land Rover Discovery, although no longer a frame SUV, can also be considered a competitor to the hero of this article. For the same 5 million rubles, you can purchase a Disco with a 3-liter V6 diesel engine producing 249 hp. At the same time, Land Rover boasts a significantly higher quality interior, and in urban conditions, it will clearly be more pleasant than the frame Lexus. <\/p>\n

Prices for another large frame SUV \u2014 the Chevrolet Tahoe \u2014 start at 4.6 million rubles, excluding current discounts. This 8-seat giant is equipped with a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine with a power output of 426 hp. <\/p>\n

Thus, the lack of significant changes after the facelift of the Lexus GX 460 should only please potential buyers. It is also worth noting the minimal price changes compared to its predecessor \u2014 the lower versions have even become cheaper.
