As part of the project Wine-wayland<\/a><\/noindex> A set of patches and the winewayland.drv driver have been prepared, enabling the use of Wine in environments based on the Wayland protocol, without the application of XWayland and X11-related components. This includes the possibility of running games and applications that use the Vulkan graphics API and Direct3D versions 9, 10, and 11. Direct3D support is implemented through a layer DXVK<\/a><\/noindex>, translating calls to the Vulkan API. The set also includes patches esync<\/a><\/noindex> (Eventfd Synchronization) to enhance the performance of multithreaded games.<\/p>\n

The Wine team\u2019s work for Wayland has been tested in Arch Linux and Manjaro environments with the Weston composite server and the AMDGPU driver supporting the Vulkan API. Mesa version 19.3 or higher, built with support for Wayland, Vulkan, and EGL, along with SDL and Faudio libraries, are required for operation, as well as support for Esync<\/a><\/noindex> or Fsync<\/a><\/noindex> in the system. Full-screen mode can be activated using the F11 hotkey. Currently, OpenGL support, game controllers, GDI applications, and custom cursors are not supported. Launchers do not work. <\/p>\n

For developers of distributions, Wine-wayland may be appealing due to the ability to provide a clean Wayland environment with support for running Windows applications, freeing the user from the need to install X11-related packages. In Wayland-based systems, the Wine-wayland package allows for higher performance and responsiveness of games by eliminating unnecessary layers. Additionally, the native use of Wayland helps to avoid security issues inherent to<\/a><\/noindex> X11 (for example, untrustworthy games for X11 can spy on other applications \u2014 the X11 protocol allows access to all input events and the substitution of fake key presses).<\/p>\n
