According to Alexander Auza, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Moscow State University, the role and activity of \"institutional\" economists increase during times of crisis. That is, economists who take a broad view of the problem. Later, they are followed by \"mainstream\" economists, who are better at addressing and calculating narrow, specific issues. <\/p>\n

The task of \"institutional\" economists is to identify general principles, vectors, and trends that can lead to economic growth. To find a peculiar \"starting point\", a \"fulcrum\", which, according to Archimedes, will allow us to \"move the world\".<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the starting point in monetarism (Milton Friedman) and the Austrian School of economics (Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich von Hayek) is freedom. Economic and political freedom.<\/p>\n

A third popular starting point at present is the concept of the \"International Happiness Index\".<\/p>\n

Thus, there is currently no single starting point.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, this point can be discovered by analyzing the fundamental principles underlying modern post-industrial democratic society. By understanding what is common among the listed models. Where their common starting point lies.

\nThe modern economic system, like the modern democratic system, is not created for its own sake. They are created for people. Meaning, it is not the individual for the state, but the state for the individual. Laws are not for limiting people's freedoms, but for ensuring the rights and freedoms of each person, to increase the happiness and wealth of each person. Thus, what matters is not GDP, but the wealth of each individual.<\/p>\n

States consist of people. No people \u2014 no state. Poor people mean a poor state. <\/p>\n

Wealth, happiness, and freedoms of individuals are in the realm of upholding their rights.<\/p>\n

Thus, the unifying point in economic and political discussions and theories lies in the area of human rights.<\/p>\n

And if human rights are fully upheld, happiness emerges, the \"wealth of nations\" grows, the country's GDP increases, and economic freedoms arise.<\/p>\n

What are human rights? There is the \"Universal Declaration of Human Rights.\" It can serve as a foundation, although in my opinion, many provisions of this Declaration do not fully ensure human rights and freedoms. Still, it's better than nothing.<\/p>\n

We can also refer to the words of Thomas Jefferson from the U.S. Declaration of Independence, stating that \"all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.\" <\/p>\n

These words encompass much more than the provisions of the Declaration of Human Rights and, in my opinion, are more accurate.<\/p>\n

If we take human rights as a starting point, the answers to many pressing questions in today's economy will become obvious. It will be clear in which direction to address them, what the resolution vector should be, fully in line with care for GDP, economic freedoms, human happiness, and the \"wealth of nations.\"<\/p>\n

For example, the right to life implies the right to protect life and health, as well as the right to die. This leads to the necessity of legalizing the sale of self-defense weapons, the legalization of euthanasia, simplifying and even abolishing the certification of drugs, medical institutions, prescriptions, etc. (see Milton Friedman\u2019s \"Free to Choose\" about the FDA). A person should have the right to independently and freely choose how, with what, and from whom to receive treatment. How to protect their life and health. To freely choose a healthy lifestyle or death from legal tobacco, blades, ropes, or alcohol, and illegal (in some countries) substances, guns, euthanasia.
\nAnother example. The right to work also implies the legalization of prostitution, which will provide people in this profession with the right to life and health. The same universal right to work, the right to freedom of movement necessitates the maximum easing of immigration legislation.<\/p>\n

\nAre these rights and freedoms related to the wealth of nations and GDP growth? Certainly. The legalization of self-defense weapons, prostitution, immigration, and the abolition of certification and licensing reduces the budgetary costs for police and other services, thus saving taxpayer money. Lowering budgetary expenses allows for tax reductions, making each taxpayer wealthier and happier. <\/p>\n

Legalization makes numerous businesses and incomes legitimate, which leads to a decrease in criminal money and undermines the economic basis of crime. This, in turn, reduces budget costs.<\/p>\n

Moreover, legalization makes people law-abiding taxpayers, which increases GDP and budget revenues.<\/p>\n

As a result, people are wealthy and happy, GDP increases, budget revenues grow, transforming into additional benefits for people, such as in the form of unconditional income.<\/p>\n

Thus, the starting point in modern economics should be the parameter of full adherence to human rights. It is the respect for human rights that underpins GDP growth and the \"wealth of nations.\"<\/p>\n

With full adherence to human rights, all economic agents benefit. Therefore, human rights are the main reference point for modern economics.<\/p>\n
